Love how grounded are fans are staying about his potential. The next Carrick or Modric you say? not much to live up to then!

Nobody has said that to be fair.

Just that his play last night was reminiscent of those players.

He needs many many more games before any sort of hype is justified, but that doesn't stop us being impressed with his performances so far.

Quickest we've moved the ball in some time, and it lead to creating space for our better players and chances, and Harry was a massive part in that, always on the move passing at pace and quick to spot and make the pass, has all the attributes to be a top player.

96% passing accuracy last night and reads the game so well.

The boy is now a man. He has come of age.

Oh really?

genuinely the next modric rather than carroll?

He'll turn out to be the player Wilshere should have been.

I think that's a stretch as Modric is one of the best ever with an insane skill level. But maybe the next Carrick?

True. But there is something of Modric about Winks. Another player he reminds me of Scott Parker. Maybe not the Scott Parker that arrived at Spurs, but the younger all action version. Winks genuinely seems to have a bit of everything about him. Very excited about this lads future.

100 + successful passes is nuts for an experienced player. Winks is 20 and was only making his 5th ever start(3rd not including the league cup). Absolutely unheard of.

So what we are realistically saying is that he should start for England alongside Dier - with Ali and Kane ahead of him.

In all seriousness you'd hope long-term he will be able to establish himself enough with us to be considered for England as the quality available at the moment is quite dire... (no pun intended with Dier there).

Henderson is turd, Wiltshere has his injury concerns plus a questionable attitude (and may also be more suited further up field) and then aside from Dier (who is going through rough patch himself and not played midfield for us for a while) I can't think of many English midfielders that are any good (Drinkwater is also bang average).

It's pretty sad really as we've also had a pretty decent selection of midfielders to pick from for England, it was always left wing and left back that were the problem but we seem to have resolved that.

Spot on, England don't have a deep lying play maker who is mobile, we either have hard workers like Henderson or Drinkwater or old slow passers like Carrick or Huddleston.

Winks advantage to both Spurs and England is that outside countries like Spain those type of players are rare. Arsenal have Cozorla, Man City have Gundogen but there isn't really that many of them around and they are so important for controlling the game and getting a team on the front foot.

I'm very excited about Winks, I think the team noticeably plays better and faster with him in midfield. We've lacked a metronomic passer since Modric left, and I think to be a genuinely top team you need that player in the middle who can quickly move the ball forward, get out of presses and intercept. It's early days for him but he looks like he could be the next big young player for us. If he keeps up at the level he played last night, I think he could be a huge player for club and country.

The thing with Winks is that he consistently shows his quality. In friendly matches and in his first team appearances, he's looked assured and confident in his ability. And so he should. His vision and passing are excellent and his touch has really surprised me, very nice. Seems to have very good temperament as well. As he plays more games and grows in confidence his influence will only grow.

Really like this lad.

best thing about him is how quickly and accurately he can play the ball forward into pockets, last night most noticeably for Alli

I think we all knew this kid had something. But some loyalists have been dead set on holding him back due to preferential treatment. I don't want to say I told you so, but watch the tables slowly turn the more he plays. He will have hiccups, but he is hands down the option to play for our bqll mover in midfield. I am not slating the Belgium Slolom Skier, but I have been saying since preseason this kid is miles ahead of him when competing for the pivot role in the CM2.

Now people are comparing him to Modric, Xavi, Weigl, Carrick...I am fucking loving it. My adopted son making his point.

He starts every game for me and sits next to 1 of these three depending on opponent: Dembele/Dier/Wanyama.
