Fuck me that tackle and through ball for Gil was glorious!

I’ve always wondered if he’d be better in a midfield three, who knows might be worth keeping now as cover.

I think we need to shift Sissoko and Ndombele before him personally.

Was a naughty boy being a snake last season but if can turn it around…

We've been woeful for years! Does that mean that we sell everybody except son (who can go weeks being woeful) and kane? If we sold every player that the denizens of SC wanted gone we wouldn't have any players left!

I think it's quite clear which players aren't good enough moving forward.

I think Dier and Sanchez will get another chance this season for various reasons, but Winks is way down the pecking order and isn't going to be starting PL games with any regularity. At 25 he should be moved on to make way for younger players with a much higher ceiling.

Skipp is already ahead of him in the pecking order which says it all.

Whatever becomes of his time with us from here on out, he wanted to stay and fight for his place, and the performance tonight was exactly that, so fair play to him. If he's willing to sacrifice himself to make that challenge that he did for the first goal against better opposition, never mind getting back up, on the ball, and making the pass to make the goal...that's going to be a player that we can do with in the squad. Will take a few more like that for sure, but if he's shown the video of the game tonight and told that that's the standard he has to maintain every week, and he's capable of it, then have at it. Rather have tonight's Winks than spend money to replace him, as the money is needed elsewhere as well.

In fairness, I think that Skipp is taking up a different role as we're playing Hojbjerg further forward with Skipp as the dedicated DM. If anything he is competing with Hojbjerg, Dele, Lo Celso, and maybe now Gil, with Hojbjerg able to rotate with Skipp in DM. I think we have space for at least another non DM centre midfielder *on top* of keeping Winks (if we consider Sissoko off and Ndombele either off or out of the frame) and time is running out, so I wouldn't be surprised at this point if we signed Moriba, kept Winks, and let them all push each other on and rotate for the season and see how it shakes out after that. And I wouldn't be disappointed with that.

Winks really isn't a midfielder who offers anything going forward. The move for the first goal aside, which was the first time I've seen him create an attack for ages, he just doesn't offer anything going forward at anything like a near enough basis.

We need to sign a creative midfielder for sure, but Winks is neither defensive or offensive and he isn't a box to box player. I don't see where he fits. It does look like he is staying though, if he tries his hardest and doesn't turn toxic, then fine but as I say I'd much rather him leave and free up more space for signings.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we sign Sarr from Metz on the loan-back deal & move Winks on next summer. We bring in two potentially top drawer young CMs, use Winks for a rotation option for now & move him on next summer. So we start next season with a Midfield of Hojbjerb, Dele, Lo Celso, Skipp, Moriba & Sarr...Pretty tasty, right? Meantime, Winks improves under a coach who might let him play the game he used to, head up, forward passes etc. Obviously, this will get a shit-tonne of 'optimistic' ratings but for once, I actually am.

Quick question. Do we believe Winks is a snake because of one person's say so? Are there others who have confirmed this?

Was it Lloris that spoke about problem players in the dressing room? Obviously he didn't mention names, but I believe Winks was one that was floated.

@Aphex Fair comment entirely. If he can't show the forward intent then he has to go for me too. He has showed that in pre season and in this match, and he has in the past, we can all only hope that Nuno can just make it clear that it's that way or the highway. And if it doesn't work then by all means he has to move on and I don't think anyone would disagree.

Hopefully he can put a shift in for the time being and save us some money better spent elsewhere, because while Harry Winks isn't an ideal fit when he's playing like dross, we at least have a Harry Winks, whereas we have no backup striker at all outside of Dane Scarlett!

Pretty sure there is ITK to say that it was Winks with the press bollocks, and that Lloris was talking about Dele and Winks, but not sure how much salt that comes with. I can see it, personally, though Lloris' interview in particular has an extra dimension when you hear it in the context of the past couple of months.

There are levels for me, and whatever Winks was bitching about in the press is one thing, and what Kane has done is another, so if we're willing to accept Harry Kane back into the fold under new management, Winks should at least be afforded the same opportunity

Is it multiple itks or just one?

I ask because it forms a big part of the anti-winks narrative but it could easily be agent spin just to unsettle the player and force him out.

I think if Winks had issues with Jose last season........I agree with him!

Certainly a few back handed remarks in his post match interview about the mood at the club and player fitness. Which again.....I agree with!

Jose has us all thinking our players are of a much lower level then they are capable of.

The fitness and tenacity from the whole squad I haven't seen since before the CL season

Lloris seemed to aim at people who'd been in front of the camera talking about ambition. I don't recall Winks ever doing that.

Who knows who it was. But I don't like rumours swirling around because everyone on here then hates on that player, when we may be only hearing one side of the story or third hand accounts.

The leak from yesterday, in my opinion, is very clearly a made up story designed to put the club in bad light.

Think we need to back off Winks. He may not be good enough but I'm not going to hate on him.

I've got a lot of respect for him.

He'll be aware of what's been said about him in the press and on the boards. He can probably earn more elsewhere. A lot of fans want him gone.

He puts on the shirt with his name on the back and plays in front of 60k yet he gets accused of cowardice by people who hide behind avatars. It's kind of ironic.

This system suits him. I hope he stays.
Yeah, I'm not sure those two things are comparable. For a start, he's paid to put on the shirt and play in front of 60,000 people. People 'hiding behind avatars' generally aren't being paid to do so.

Winks once dominated a midfield away at Barcelona. Yes they weren't their full first team, but it was a bloody good team in the champions league under huge pressure.

People act like he is the worst player in history, when he really isn't. He was excellent 3 years ago, like Dele or Dier for example, and in the right game and system can be a very useful player.

Some of the abuse of our players is disgraceful. Telling them to "get out of my club you useless c**t" etc Then the same people were crying when Kane wants to leave, accusing him of disloyalty. It runs both ways!

Yeah we have a few ****ry fans in here. It's been Dier, Winks and Dele for ages. Always loved Winks hoped he'd have progressed by now.

We have players coming through our academy getting the most vile abuse and we bend over backwards on excuses for record/ expensive signings.

Not sure about this. Out of our top 6 most expensive signings Soldado is probably the only one who had it easy. Tanguy, Sanchez, Sissoko, Bergwijn, and Lamela all have the same share of fans who give them (at times quite horrible) stick.

This is probably the worst thread I’ve ever seen in my time in SC. Some of the bile that has been directed at a Spurs supporter who’s come through our academy on this thread has been utterly disgusting.

It’s almost as if some are disappointed he played very well tonight.

It was winks. He was talking about his ambition to win his first team place back after a Europa league game during the post match interview. The usually stuff about being professional. Then he was blabbering to the press in secret about stuff behind closed doors. He got caught doing so!
