True. But not just Spurs fans, Dembele was also consistently highly rated by pundits and other professionals as well. Take the point about non-spurs fans perhaps.
Very true the night we signed him (I wasn’t sure about him at that point) a fair few pundits I was listening to on the radio were saying what a player. So glad I was wrong, gutted when he started getting injured towards the end and left us.

I'm REALLY not a fan of Winks, particularly after the claims of his disruption under Jose. But we cannot judge someone for not wanting to move abroad when there can be so many personal and family factors at play, and nor can we judge him for wanting to stay at Spurs if he thinks there is any chance he might fight his way back into contention. Listening to his interviews he has never lacked self-belief, however delusional it may be at times, or a sense of his own entitlement unfortunately.

But we have to remember, whether we like him or not, that Winks has always been a Spurs boy through and through, and while I would be looking for first team football if I were him, how can we really vilify him for displaying a loyality to his life-long club while at the same time vilifying Kane for not showing exactly this attitude last summer?

We have two Harrys with very similar circumstances, it's just that one player is world class and the other bang average. But we can't demand that one commits forever no matter what, while the other one pisses off now because he just isn't good enough. I want Winks gone like a bad smell, but he did earn his contract and with it the right to insist the club honours it if he really is happy to sit in the reserves.

I still think he will leave this window, I imagine he is just going through the process of coming to terms with his new reality and the difficult decision of where to move on to, when his heart will always be at Tottenham. None of this is easy for him, that's for sure, and despite my being delighted that we have progressed our squad to the point where he won't get a look in, I still wish him well

That is probably true, but I find it hard to believe that he was not told at the end of last season, and again at the beginning of pre-season, that he was not part of Conte's plans for this season.

I get that this is his decision to make, and that Spurs will honor the contract, but I wonder if he has not deluded himself a bit here into thinking there is a way back into the squad.

I am sure there is also a bit of a bruised ego as he finds out nobody really wants him - but at some point you have to accept reality, and deal with what is in front of you. If he wants to continue to play football, then he needs to adjust his expectations.

I don't even know how he could eat in the canteen with the lads anymore. You need such thick skin to even hang around the training ground or club.

I'm Spurs through and through but that doesn't entitle me to play for them and they never offered me a contract, I realised I couldn't play for them as a kid and went out and got a proper job, that's what you do, and I'm still Spurs through and through, not playing for them doesn't change that.
We have just progressed beyond his ability and that means he has to go, I wish him well but he does have to go now.

The challenge for all of us is that there are a few who we trust, who have a pretty good idea what he was doing behind the scenes and consider him a snake. He isn't making the team because either a) he isn't good enough or b) he isn't good enough considering the baggage that he has had all along. Ultimately, if he was as bad as some hinted at, then he isn't Spurs thru and thru but Harry thru and thru. Why he is attempting to stay is another unknown. Is it because he thinks he can work his way back into the club? That's admirable whether deluded or not. it's kind of pointless to conjecture too much but what you wrote in bold is exactly true. I wish him the best and hope he has learned the lessons he needed to learn. And if he is prepared to accept the status quo, then that is the right he earned.

Just like working your notice isn't it? Different atmosphere sure, but I doubt he feels embarrassed (and probably shouldn't be).

I completely agree, and I have always found him to have an astonishingly high opinion of himself in interviews. As I say, I'm not a fan. I just think it's ironic (if understandable) how our position on the loyalty of players changes in line with their ability.

He has a contract, he is perfectly entitled to just sit it out. Not sure I see the problem with that, but surely he must be bored? At least go on loan somewhere to play a bit...

The attitude of staying, even when it's only a loan, says everything about him. He's old Spurs through and through that's for sure.

It is very sad, and to think, by most measurements, he is one of domestic football's success stories.
To get into our academy in the first place, he is 1 in 1000. To get promoted to the first team 1 in 1000.
To play in the closing stages of the CL - how many english players do that?
England international and scored for his country.
He is possibly still in the top 40 english midfielders in the country, maybe higher.
It is pretty crazy that he is now of little value to us and effectively unemployable in the prem.

In the 70's he would have played for spurs as long as he wanted. He wouldn' t have earned as much though.

Come on, it's nothing to do with being Spurs through and through, it's what suits Harry Winks.

People going on like he'd play for free or something.

Do you think if Madrid came in for him he's stick around?

He has to be very careful, because this could actually be the beginning of the end of a top level career if he just sits and rots for two years, great, get paid a load of money but then who at a highish level would pick him up after essentially being on a jolly for 2 years. Its really quite sad.

I love the way people manufacture stories out of thin air to throw at a player when they know absolutely none of the facts. He probably wants a fresh start and to move but you need clubs to offer and try to buy you.

No doubt he'll leave before the end of the window and good luck to him.

Who’s been doing that?

Only ’stories’ discussed in here are following very reliable ITK of him going to the press during Jose’s management period?

Someone will pick him up before the end of the window, I wouldn't worry about it. He'll probably end up at bournemouth on loan or something.

He has....... Tottenham.

I'm actually past caring now, as long as he doesn't make any of the matchday squads I couldn't give a toss.
I guess stability and homelife is more important to him than playing time then….
I mean I get it but it’s a short career.
would have thought his natural competitiveness would have made him want to move on to get playing again.

obviously not

My opinion for what it’s worth (absolutely feck all) I think he’s been told to look for another club won’t be involved, so basically collecting his salary till a he gets a move/loan that suits him, b he’s got the arse and said feck I’ll take the decent salary and let them worry about moving me on nothing to do with spurs through and through.
Probably 100% wrong just my onions.
