Harry's tactics vs Wigan

How dumb were those tactics?

We lacked width. All our wide players wanted to come into the centre.

Defoe was clueless.

And it took Harry the 75th and 85th min to bring in Lennon and Kranjcar.

You know. What would you have done to change things?

I would have Rose/ Kranjcar for Defoe. Jenas to right . VDV up with PAV. And deck Modric into centre. One sub, max effect. Leave Lennon for later to replace Jenas if required.

You?

Defoe with yet another undeserved start.

We might as well play with 10 men.

Modric should have been allowed to play deeper in the center. Look at his performance against Newcastle at home, that's how we should use him.

left subs too late again - should have made a double change at around 55mins as Wigan had the better of the game and we were going no where. Defoe > Lennon and Pav > Crouch. Putting VDV behind crouch.

I didn't like how it looked on paper but the most frustrating thing was that Harry didn't put things right.

In the second half I would have taken Defoe off for Lennon, put him on the right, VDV behind the striker, Jenas for Pienaar/Kranjcar to play on the left and with Modric in the centre.

The changes that were made didn't change a damn thing.

Plus playing VDV and Modric wide to accodomate jenas in the centre is baffling.

We lacked width because our full-backs refused to get forward. Corluka at least tried a bit, but BAE seemed afraid to go passed the halfway line. I doubt Harry told him to stay put. It also doesn't help when you have two strikers up front who lose the ball everytime they get it. Pav was more of a danger to the Wigan players than he was to the goal and Defoe gets brushed of the ball way too easily.

Other than Sandro and Jenas, the rest of them refused to break a sweat and were saving themselves for Tuesday. I'm more concerned with that than Harry's tactics.

Started by playing our best team and not defoe. Modric and Sandro in the middle, VDV in the hole, Pav up front, Lennon right, Pienaar or Kranjcar on the left. Jenas and Defoe nowhere to be seen.

Not that hard...

No amount of formation changing would have changed the fact that the players just didn't give a shit today, he should have made it clear today that poor performances in this match could well cost them places in the Madrid game, whilst equally a good one could cement their place in the side.

However, being a CL game you can guarantee we are gonna go 1 up top and that will be Crouch, so what reason for Pav or Defoe to bust a gut today simply to be benched come Tuesday regardless? Defoe scored 2 crackers vs Wolves, what then in the Milan game? Didn't get a minute.

Defenders aside most of those players could be switched out for an equally gifted player, they should be giving 100% every game due to strong competition for places.

Think a diamond would have suited the midfield better
Sandro at the base
Jenas right, Modric left
VDV behind the front 2

Two pussy footing strikers don't help. What's the point when neither can hold a ball up.

Common perception is Harry left it late to make the subs didn't he. He sends brilliant teams out like the palacios sandro combination away against Milan

Then he fucks it up against Wigan.

That was kinda forced upon him due to Hudd being out, JJ suspended and Modric not match fit. We really did not have any other option did we.....

He shouldn't need to have to motivate the players but most of them just trotted through the game like it was a closed doors pratice match.
I thought VDV showed some urgency it would have been nice to see what he could have done with Lennon creating space but that was dreadful.
At least v Blackpool and wham we created loads of chances today was just lame.

We could have played Pienaar in the middle like the a lot of this site wanted too, or VDV like a few seem to think we should.
