How do you get to Liverpool Street now that the Number 26 is retired (and more to the point why did Ledley use to get the bus)

If not, is there a reason?
The reason is, we are English and we don't go in for such stupidity! Should we retire the Nicholson gates as well?

Imagine if this had been the practice since 1882, the players would have 72 or something on their backs these days.

Levy said we wouldn't retire the number in case Ledley's son played for us...

So it has been unofficially retired, similar to what Milan did with Maldini? Cheers for the info!

I'm amazed they haven't retired every squad number from last season after their glorious treble against us...

Lol. I was in a cafe in Devon wearing my Spurs shirt when I was approached by a spotty kid "spurs didn't have a great season did they?". I was like "compared to who?" (expecting him to be Arse*al) I haven't laughed so much as when he got all serious with "I'm West Ham and we always beat Tottenham". I congratulated him on their staying in the premiership before suggesting he looked at the league table before making such a twat of himself in public.... Then I noticed his T-shirt......

i wanna see the number 26 every week - just to remind me that i once saw a legend of the game wear that number for Spurs.
I don't want it retired and forgotten.
Just like every number 10 reminds me that Dozzell Hoddle once wore that shirt for us.

Sad thing is, if i think back to our legends, i mean proper deserving of having their number retired, 90% of them played back when numbers belonged to positions, from 1 - 11 and number 12 was the sub. :(

I'm actually hard pressed to think of any who actually deserve to have their shirt retired - we've had some stars, but it certainly takes that extra dedication to the club, going that little bit further, than virtually any of our squad can really claim to have achieved since the early 80's.

i think the most recent candidate worthy of retiring their shirt would have been mabbutt. i wrote to club suggesting this when he retired but didnt get a reply.

Don't like the retiring of shirt numbers,
if anything I'd rather see it not used for 5 or 10 years in respect of special players.
Permanent removal of the number however is just silly.
More supportive of creating traditional shirt numbers,
like making 26 something our best (academy produced) central defender often is given.

Could say we've started something with 18 for strikers since Klinsmann,
and 14 for our creative stars with Ginola, Modric etc.
