Is he all that? Genuinely?

I have my doubts. I could probably name at least 30 others id rather spend 25m on
Although I agree there are players I'd sooner spend that sort of money on like Lamela, from the little I've seen Martin looks like a good player who would offer us goals and assists. We will have to wait and see what happens but if we did drop this sort of cash on him I would trust that we had done a lot of research on the guy.

Personally I think he is cheap at £25M, one of the stand out players of last seasons CL

Definitely an upgrade on Dempsey and Sigurdsson

Saying that it's not my money so don't give a monkeys how much he would cost

PS - think he's going to Dortmund

Common sense tells you we are not going to pay £25m on 1 player and especially one that is not really needed in a position that is well stocked up. This link makes no sense at all, I can only guess we asked a question and ran off when we heard the price. £25m could get you a Paulinho + Villa ;)

Ok, is he better than Honda who is on a free and from Levy's perspective will open us up to the Asian market, unlike Toda!

personally i'd rather spend 20-25m on Bernard for his creativity we lack in that department. if we didnt get him there are a few players I could think of that i'd rather have aswell Lamela being one!!

PS-Who would other people want Mkhitaryan or another player if so who?

Much rather Mkhitaryan over Bernard or Lamela

Far better stats, playing regular in the CL and more experience. Bernard and Lamelo still have a lot to prove.

Then buy Dries Mertens for the wing

Don't think Napoli would sell Mertens just yet.

Didn't realise he joined them, been reading about Bernard and he is on an upward scale but he's light as a feather and only 5' 4'' - not sure how he'd get on against some Premier League defenders - he will not be protected like they are in the Brazilian league , something Neymar will find out in Spain also.

Mertens will do well at Napoli

Didn't seem to affect 5ft 6" ?Messi when he was tearing Man Utd a new one at Old Trafford? Or on a weekly basis in Spain?

Are you comparing Messi to Bernard? Eitherway you look at it, 5 ft 4 is short. It would make him the smallest player in the premiership with Dyer and Lennon being 5 ft 5.

People can disagree with me as much as they like, thankfully they don't decide who we sign, just like myself.

Of course I'm not comparing Messi to Bernard. What I am doing is saying that size means bugger all. Ask zola, Juninho, Tevez, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Scholes, Cazorla, Anita, Britton, Sessegnon, Hoolahan, Defoe, Mata, Silva, Allen, Pienaar, Baines, Barnby, Geovanni (who played for Hull), Malbranque, Bannan, Olsson, Reid, Wilshere, Routledge, Kevin Phillips.......................................

Of course not, but he's actually shorter then everyone you've listed there :p

Most are actually 5 ft 7, bit of a difference compared to 5 ft 4.

He would be the shortest of them all, yes but he'd also be more or less the most talented of them all as well. This kid is a like a pitbull in that he both tracks back and attacks just the way Lennon does but with way more flair, decisiveness and creativity. If he were a striker or central midfielder I would have my concerns but he's a bloody winger and his height could actually prove to be at an advantage in some cases. He's incredibly tough to get off the ball without fouling since he has such a low center of gravity for one and he's also built really sturdy with a lot of muscle.

But let's stop hijacking this Mkhitaryan thread with more talk about Bernard. This has gone from who is better for us, Bernard or Mkhitaryan, to Bernard being able to cope in the premier league or not. Let's all be friendly and take this to the Bernard thread instead :)

My honest opinion - Mkhitaryan is not good enough for 25million.
Has a poor first touch, bad distribution. His strength seems to be - he can score when he is one on one and also seems good in box - but all these came in weak Ukraine league.
In champions league he has played 21 games - scored 2 goals & 0 assists. Those 2 came against weak side FC Nordsjaelland- by far the worst side in competition.
If we really have 25million to spend rather spend on Lamela or Eriksen or Benteke.

He played a deep central midfield role in the CL not AMC, basically the role Xabi Alonso played at LFC so don't get too caught up with goals and assists too much.

If you look at his stats for that deeper and slightly more defensive role for the last 3 seasons just in the CL (pointless looking at his league numbers), he is up there with the best in Europe.

That's actually not true.

For Shakhtar he played in the hole. Taras Stepanenko/Tomas Hubschman played alongside Fernandinho in the holding 2 in Shakhtar's preferred 4-2-3-1 formation to give them a strong backbone with more defensive-minded holding midfielders.

For Shakthar he does drop deeper to receive the ball and he is the "playmaker" for Shaktar, but to say he played in the deep central midfield role in their Champions League matches isn't true.

Now, for Armenia he routinely will play deeper. He often drops very deep into midfield so that he can be the linchpin on the counter. But, he isn't rigid where he lines up for Armenia, either. I'm not sure you could say he's the type of player you peg into a single position on the pitch. He's got a wide array of skills from different areas on the pitch and he should fit in well at Liverpool with how fluid your guys' attack is.

So is there some serious steam behind this fella supposedly signing for Liverpool or not?

Toela thinks so. That indy WUM does as well.

In my opinion, he'll either go there or Dortmund. He should go to Dortmund in my opinion. Heck, I'd say he should go there over us, too.
