i was there in 81 and remember it vividly. i and my mates were starting to get crushed behind the goal. word started to spread and some fans started to climb over the fence. the old bill came over thinking fans were looking for bother. only after speaking to fans you could see the panic on the old bill and they quickly opened up the gates to alleviate the pressure otherwise it so easily have been me and many others.

at the time i worked at scotland yard and remember telling my governors about the incident. dont think anything ever got passed on though

now as a local politician im an advocate of all seater stadiums as i do feel they have gone a long way to prevent this from happening again

signed

i was behind the goal and thats exactly the way it was..The police wouldn't open the front gate at first and i was begging them, i was very young and they could see i was in trouble, they eventually opened the gate and the game became irrelevent to me after that, though by half time i was just thinking about Wembley again....as you do.

wish i can be helpful but given this :

You must be a UK citizen or normally live in the UK to create or sign e-petitions.

And it has been publically advertised on football forums for international members to sign up with a certain postcode in Liverpool. Which probably explains why the number decreases every now and then whilst they wipe these off.

Bit of a pointless petition really though isn't it?

Only if you think the truth is pointless.

No, I think it's criminal that nothing has happened regarding the truth, but can't see a petition for an incident which happened so many years ago doing anything now.

Well if you think it is criminal to cover up the truth, then you'll agree with the petition whose aim is to disclose the truth.

It's part of taking responsibility for the events that killed 96 people, and it's part of holding those in power to account.

We agree, don't we?

89,118 signatures on the petition now.

I'm assuming you'll add yours.

And hitting 100'000 signatures will do what exactly?

I'm sure this has been done before and failed, on numerous occasions?

Cannot believe some of you believe that the scousers on that day were not partly to blame.

Yes the Police were at fault
Yes the stand was poorly designed

BUT........ A large number of scousers are just anaimal. I have seen it first hand especialy back in the 80's. Scum of the earth. It had to be them didnt it?

Heysal then Hillsborough within a few years of each other.

I beleive the stories of looting and fans trying to get in without tickets. Sums these people up im afraid.

But it makes me laugh how Liverpool and scousers cannot be criticised. Worst people on the plant as far as im concerned. and have so many stories to back this up.

I wont be signing.

Well, no. If you read the rest of the thread you'll find that it could very easily have been 'us' in 1981 (something I was not previously aware of).

But it wasnt. We behaved better than the animals from the cesspit of the country.

I can't believe people still think like you. I was at Hillsborough in 81 and the very same thing could have happened to Spurs fans, the police opened the same gates due to the same crush outside the turnstyles. They never learned any lessons from 81, and there was thousands of Spurs fans without tickets as well, it was the norm in those days.

Hillsborough did not have a safety certificate in 89 and thats a fact.

Two video's from the POLICE CONTROL ROOM went missing?

In those days football fans were treated with contempt, and the cover up and blaming the fans showed that same contempt in my book.

I take your point about it could of happened to Spurs to a certain extent and agree with you about football fans in general being treated appallingly (alot of it was deserved to be fair).

But come on!!! are you really one of these people who think the lovely scousers are salt of the earth and everyone is some sort of great comedian?

I have seen it first hand, I wont go into detail...But a large number of Liverpool supporters who follow their team up and down the country back then (and some now, but have probably been priced out of the game) were scum of the earth!! the kind that would rob a grannie for a fiver.

I just dont buy this Media Liverpool love in.

Please dont believe the hype!!!

I suppose the Scouser had nothing to do with English clubs being banned from Europe for 5 year either?......

They were completely exonerated by the Taylor Report. Completely.

Which part of that don't you understand?

A large number of scousers are just anaimal. I have seen it first hand especialy back in the 80's. Scum of the earth.

animals from the cesspit of the country.

You are accusing most people from Merseyside.

You are nasty, inarticulate, and full of hate.

I beleive the stories of looting and fans trying to get in without tickets. Sums these people up im afraid. Worst people on the plant as far as im concerned. and have so many stories to back this up.

Further inarticulate ramblings.

What stories of looting? You're a lost fantasist as well as a hate-vomiting idiot.

Do you really think that you can be treated seriously?

Scousers are no better or worse than any other group of football fans in this country. I've been going to Spurs for 40+ years. In the 70's we would go with the firm mainly for safety, and Spurs always had a naughty firm.

My experience of Hillsborough in 81 gives me an insight into what happened in 89. For years the authorities treated football fans worse than cattle, they rolled out the crap trains for away days with no food or drink to be had and then herd the fans on to terraces with pens and fences, it was a disaster waiting to happen.

At no point did the leppings lane end exceed its capacity on that fatefull day, which puts to bed the lie that hundreds of ticketless fans caused the crush.

Crushing occured in 81 with Spurs fans in the same end, when the semi-final returned in 87 crushing happened again in the match between Leeds and Coventry. No lessons learned.

Hillsborough had no valid safety certificate yet the match still went ahead, not to worry they are only football fans we can cram them in.

There were many mistakes made, by the authorities, the police and yes even the fans, but you just point the finger at Liverpool fans and blindly ignore all the other factors involved.

The real truth has been covered up by those responcible for the safety of the public and the media played its part as well.
