LOL aT PROMOTION FROM WITHIN.

We're not Blackburn Rovers or West ham. We are a top 6 club in the best league in the world. No way will Tiger Tim become our manager.

So you'd rule out Jimmy Anderson, Bill Nicholson, Keith Burkinshaw? And Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and King Kenny? And Capello?

Ya. I mean, you wouldn't see a big club like Barcelona promote from within, would you?

There is a significant difference between Guardiola and Sherwood though.
Obviously Pep has turned into a great appointment and I'm not saying Sherwood is going to be anywhere near as good as him or that we even appoint him, but what's the significant difference between Guardiola of four/five years ago and Sherwood of now?

Exactly how do you define this - bearing in mind that any reference to playing career is totally irrelevant and therefore inadmissible?

It isn't though.
His playing career gives him more respect from players.
He's also been part of a system that's developed at Barca.

As players, there wasn't a million miles difference between Guardiola and Sherwood. Both were reasonably dynamic, tenacious players with a desire to win. Guardiola was better but they were similar species.

1) His playing career gives him more respect from players.
2) He's also been part of a system that's developed at Barca.

1) WottYouMean...kinda like Mourinho  And, if I remember correctly, Tim Sherwood was an EPL winning captain....something a cut above anything our present manager achieved on the pitch.

2) Well, er, yeah...but, clearly, Sherwood is part of an attempt to develop a system at THFC.

But, really, you kinda miss the point...which is that things are going on behind the scenes at THFC of which you know very little. Sherwood is part of that, seemingly a big part - and it is something that Levy seems cognisant of and prepared to fund. Aside from casting (unjustified) aspertions on Sherwood's playing career you have absolutely no way of calculating that Sherwood would be incapable of being a success for us in the same mode as Pep has been for Barca.

Clive Allen and Joe Jordan had pretty good playing careers. Does that make them better options than Sherwood ? Ossie Ardiles had a fantastic playing career .......

I am in shock that some people think Scholes is better than Gazza!! Gazza carried our team to an FA Cup final he is the best English player we have had in years! Plus, Scholes is a ginger!!!!

Remember, Martin Jol was promoted from within, although you decide whether that is a good enough reason to promote from within or not.

The problem for me with Ancelotti is the style of football, too slow. The recent comment from Torres about the football being too slow paced, spun by the media to being the Chelsea players are too slow. This season under AVB the football's becoming more free flowing, we are Tottenham, the style's just as important as the result.

A great man once said 'The games about glory, anyone can win it's about doing things with a flourish, we at Tottenham set our standards so high that even our failures will contain an echo of glory.' Or something along them lines.

With Sherwood he's doing a good job but perhaps a bit too soon for him, would be nice to see him have a couple more years overseeing and bringing through the kids and then stepping up Guardiola style. It's a good system for me, years of working together, knowing what the players are capable of and mutual respect and team spirit, just what you see at Barca. Lets face it, it doesn't matter if we have a big draw manager as we can't pay the wages of top players so we need to make the most of our youth team.

It was specifically stated that Scholes was a better player in '98, when Gazza bore only a tangential resemblance to the player we knew and loved at Spurs.

Chelsea played better - and more attacking - football under Ancelloti (first season) than they had in any of the previous decade.

That's not saying a lot but I think now they are getting better and better on the footballing front this season even if losing some solidity

First season under Mourinhno though, Duff and Robben on each wing, some very good footie, high scores as well
