17 'foreign players' allowed in the squad, so anywhere from 6-8 'homegrown' players need to complete our 23-25 man squad.

Apparently Rose has been offered a much better contract, with this in mind no doubt: http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014...eportedly-offer-danny-rose-a-better-contract/ It's surely not got anything to do with his defending.
So quite a few of us have started thinking about who should stay and who should go. Personally, I'm hoping the following players will be enough, so we can let the others go and upgrade 4-5 players this summer:

Archer (GK) - just turned 21 - could replace Friedel as no 2 (maybe not yet)..?
Naughton(RB) cover
Fredericks (RB) cover
Rose (LB) cover
Fryers (LB or CB cover)
Carroll (CM)
Kane (CF) - turns 21 in July
Pritchard (CAM) - just turned 21

Also, Walker is obviously homegrown and Ashley Cole could replace one of the above, but I'd be fine seeing Dawson / Lennon / Townsend / Siggy all go.

Keep all of the young guns but Rose, I don't have a nice word to say about him and I feel more comfortable with Naughton or Fryers at left back

Cue lists of who our homegrown players are...

I think Naughton and Rose are acceptable back-up, and I'd like to see Kane remain part of the squad.

Not sure any of the others are up to it just yet.

I'd replace Rose with Olsson (Norwich) as our back up lb. He has Epl experience of more than 5 years, been linked with Chelsea,Arsenal, etc in the past, young 25 and should come cheap since Norwich are relegated. Also he counts as homegrown.

Didn't know Olson was homegrown, he looks decent.

This. I've not been Rose's biggest fan this year (not sure anyone has) but I still see something there....just. He makes the grade for back up LB IMO.

EDIT - Plus Naughton did very well in the second half of the season so I'd certainly keep him as well, for cover obviously

Look, I know Rose gets a bad rep justifiably so but before he got that toe injury he looked the part, he also played well when he was on loan at Sunderland and the club are giving him a new contract which suggests that there is a player in there somewhere. He wasn't helped with the lack of defensive cohesion under Sherwood and looked woefully out of place seeing as Eriksen was given a free role therefore no cover but we can't really tell how good he is until he's been given clear defined instructions from a coach who knows what they want out of their players.

One of the reasons i'm please we've signed Pochettino is his reputation for improving young players. We don't know yet whether he can get the likes of Townsend and Rose to improve significantly. So it's a bit early to write these guys off in my opinion.

Archer, Fredericks, Walker, Pritchard, Bentaleb, Carroll, Kane, Townsend, Velkjovic, Fryers as our homegrown players.

The remaining places then all need to be players who are first team quality. No back up players, we need top quality players who are good enough in their own right to be considered first teamers.

We can then turn to our youngsters in case of injuries and suspensions. I would much rather take a gamble on potential than play someone who has consistently failed to impress when given the opportunity.

So Rose, Dawson, Lennon, Livermore, Sigurdsson and Naughton are all dispensable, which would free up squad places and bring in extra transfer revenue.

Why do people want to sell Townsend FFS? Lennon, I can understand but Andros is only 22 and could be improved so much by Poch whereas Lennon probably cannot be improved much....

Would be my 5. 5+17 foreign = a squad of 22. I'd sell Rose, Livermore, Lennon and Siggy

Archer, Fredericks, Kane, Carroll, Coulthirst, Pritchard and Ceballos are all under age at the moment IIRC, but will count in time.

Lloris, Friedel
WALKER, NAUGHTON
New LB, ROSE
Chiriches, Kaboul
Vertonghen, New CB
Sandro, Capoue
Dembele, Paulinho
Lamela, LENNON
Eriksen, Holtby, CARROLL
Chadli, TOWNSEND
Ade, Soldado

Based on the articles about how Pochettino sets up his team, that's how I see us shaping up initially, that's a 23 man squad, which contains only 6 home grown, meets the minimum requirements though.
Obviously that does not include Dawson, Ekotto, Sigurdsson etc, as I personally would sell them.
Also doesn't include Archer, Fryers and Kane, as they are 21 or under, so do not need to be listed.

For instance, if we added Cole/Davies as LB and Lescott as CB, that would give us 8 in the 23 and thus allow us to add 2 more foreign players up to the 25.

Obviously I haven't allowed for whether Pochettino would sell any of those listed above.

I'm all for including Frederiks, Velkovic, Bentaleb, Pritchard etc but since they are all under 21, would not need to be listed.

Lennon should definitely be sold.

Wrt Andros, lets say, hypothetically, someone comes in with a crazy bid(like 10-15m) you have to accept that. In no way is he worth that. So if someone offers that, you take it, run and dont look back...why do i get the feeling QPR will come in with some obscene bid for him?

Not sure Rose will want to be back up, but agree that they would be acceptable as back ups

I hear what you're saying and do agree that Rose was often exposed by tactics and formations, but add to that the sight of him sauntering back when we were under attack, his propensity for giving away needless free kicks, his tendency to gob off at referees, and his insistence that he doesn't want to be a back up and I can see a good case to replace him.

Archer, Fredericks, Kane, Carroll and Pritchard are all 21 or about to turn 21 unless my maths is way off.. most born in 1993 and birthdays before July. (Makes me feel old writing that).
