Before our next manager is announced, before we look forward to the next season with optimistic and aggressively ambitious eyes, as Spurs fan we must ask ourselves: What right do we have to challenge for 4th?

In the last 10 seasons, we've finished 5th 4 times, 4th twice and we'll have done well this season to finish 6th and qualified for champions league once. We've made the most transfer revenue via selling players in the past 5 seasons and we've been run by the likes of Redknapp and Sherwood. We've also ruined the reputations of managers such as AVB and Ramos.

I believe in this current squad, technically it's probably one of the best sides we've ever had but we cannot delude ourselves for another year that we will challenge for 4th. As fans we have a duty to support our team through thick and thin, this means we must support whoever is a part of that squad. Football is a crazy, beautiful and fickle game, it makes us view a 22 year old Argentinian lad, who has to adjust to Britain's poor weather and poor culture, as a £26 million luxury item, who we expect to score 10+ goals in the world's toughest and most physically dominating league. We idolise our foreign managers like genius' who's tactical knowledge instantly removes them of their human label and installs them as angelic beings who we feel should be able to adjust both their professional and personal life in the space of weeks so they can lead our beloved Spurs to glory.

Like you and me, managers and players like AVB, FDB and Lamela all have arseholes and like to grope their own testicles every now and then, they are disgusting humans like us and we must remember this. These people will all put pressure on themselves, they all realise they're playing for one of the biggest clubs in English football, it's our job to support, it's why we're called supporters. Your mother is a source of support in your everyday life, whenever you fuck up she'll be there to say "unlucky son, you tried your best and there's always next time" never (or at least very rarely) does she scream, "YOU FUCKING SHIT PRICK, YOU KNOW NOTHING, I WOULD'VE DONE A BETTER JOB THAN YOU, I NO LONGER WANT YOU AS MY SON, YOU'RE SACKED, I'M OFF TO THE ORPHANAGE" or "YOU'VE GOT 5 DAYS TO PROVE TO ME THAT YOU ARE WORTHY OF BEING MY SON"

Yet as supporters, this is how we treat our own players and managers, a lot of this is down to the expectations we have for our squad, and on paper, we've been lead to believe this very squad could challenge for the title 9 months ago.

Next season will be nothing like this season, it will be tougher.... Mourinho will have a more experienced and drilled quad at Chelsea, Wenger will enjoy the return and development of Ramsey and Walcott- *cough" ****! Man Utd will return with a mentally stronger team and manager, Liverpool will have added to their ranks CL level players, Martinez will work some more magic in the loan market at Everton and Man City will splash more cash and escape FFP punishment.

For the next two seasons at least it doesn't matter who our manager is or who is in our squad, the likes of Mourinho and Wenger are likely to get the better of us again. They've been there and bought the proverbial t-shirt, they've built that relationship with their respective squads and have added to their armies and systems in a cool and calculated fashion whilst our new man is forging new relationships, dealing with Levy, the xenophobic, English, Redknapp-shagging media and enjoying our congested and shitty traffic.

The likes of Eriksen, Lamela, Lloris, Verts etc will always be linked with other clubs and our club will be under attack from everything ranging between Sky Sources and the lowest lapdogs Marca have squirming around Madrid. By this time next January, it's just as likely Spurs will again find themselves in crisis, with players and fans sick of the new man's tactics with players agents constantly tooting their clients as the CB Barca so desperately need as well as the answer to Man Utd's midfield problems.

I realise the Tottenham philosophy is to aim high and I expect that of our squad and our next manager to do just this, but we must realise, as supporters, that the next 2 seasons, 5th or even 6th is a good and sensible finish for us which will provide us with a solid basis to launch a top 4 assault. For this to be done however we must support our next manager to the point of "2 points from 8 games". Liverpool have gone from the bottom to the very top of the table in the space of two seasons! Admittedly, this is a very rare case and we cannot expect similar results for Spurs for at least 3 seasons. There isn't another Brendan Rodgers, there isn't another Suarez, there isn't another Moyes or Sherwood or season like this one, this whole season has been a fluke and AVB and Spurs have been caught in the disillusioning crossfire.

Things may get worse before they get better, but they can get better... so beautifully and gloriously better! But we must be realistic otherwise we'll be stuck in this painful, never-ending loop of transition which hurts... it hurts so much.

I know the overall look of this post appears negative but don't worry, I'll probably be back here by late August, after our new manager has been installed, and I'll go on and on about how his system can dominate the Premier League, and how we can expect our new signings to be making a mockery of defenses up and down the country and how this year.... this very year, will be unlike any previous year and why ultimately... this season... will be our season!

You've obviously never met my mother.

We're gonna win the league, as fans go we are the most optimistic yet pessimistic fans I have ever came across. In the summer were gonna win the league, before a ball is kicked we see our manager, our team and we say "you know, on paper that's a starting 11 that can beat the best...", then as soon as the first ball is kicked and were in a game "FFS were shit, Levy out, blah blah", then after a few wins were gonna win the league again :), gota love it. Sooo yeah were bound to win the league sometime!
