In answer to the question, Palacios is really bloody good, possibly our best signing we've made since I started supporting Spurs alongside Keane in 2002. It is no coincidence that we are infinitely much harder to play against since we signed the guy, and, allied to the also brilliant signing of Gomes, we concede so many fewer goals now that this fact alone should tell most of the story.

The guy's mentality is inspirational, he has that unswerving desire not to be beaten - in the Villa game we lost the ball high up the pitch with lots of men forward and Villa launched a counter attack but Wilson tore back to defend our goal and you knew he was going to end up with the ball. Another great moment of his this season was when he won the last minute pen at Everton, when all our heads had dropped he was so determined to win he won that penalty with that fearsome run into the box - that's the spirit we need at Spurs.

But it's not just his tackling, pressing and sheer determination, he really is a good footballer too and I think some fans let a couple of wayward passes a game convince them he can't play. He moves the ball on well, and quickly, often finding intelligent balls through the midfield and joining our attack when we also have good, intelligent players like Huddlestone and Jenas to fill in the gaps left when he does bomb forward.

Fair enough for asking if he is as good as we think, and I personally think he is better than most think and had he *shudder* joned Arsenal I think they would probably win the league. Maybe it's because it was such a shock seeing the player we had craved for donkeys years finally playing for us last season and now that has worn off a bit, but I see the same player we bought last January and cn't help feeling in safe hands when he is about.
Agree about his mentatlity. He's out there on his own in terms of the work he gets through and his desire to win. His aggression also please me, when compared to some of the fairly meak, wimpish characters lurking in our squad. However, I just wish he had a bit more composure about him. The rushed, misplaced passes, the lunges into tackles he can't possbily win, from behind, the rushes of blood to the head, the needless rugby tackles mean he gives away far too many free-kicks and puts himself in danger of being sent off too often for my liking. If that aggression and desire could be tempered and balanced with a more mature approach, I agree he'd be some player - not dissimilar to Edgar Davids in his pomp, but for my money he's got some way to go yet.

As long as he keeps it simple, he is a massive player for us. With people like Hudd,Lennon,Luka and Niko on midfield, he doesnt need to try the difficult pass. He just needs to give it to one of the other players around him.

For Christ's sake if WP didn't misplace the ball every now and then and didn't have the odd rush of blood to the head he'd be the best fucking player in the history of the game!

He's got his weaknesses, like every player, but they are outweighed ten-fold by his strengths.

What a player he is. He's what this team has been crying out for all my life.

Harry bought Palacios because his fat nephew said he was the hardest midfielder to play against in the league.
To me he is the main reason we are where we are. We dominate teams because Palacios always harries the oppositon forcing unforced errors. He's also a fine example to his team mates. As Hudd said,

"When you see a player like big Wilson ripping into teams, you can't help but get involved." (these might not be his 'exact' words, but he said something along those lines)

I admit his passing and control is sometimes poor, but like any human who does so much work, he gets tired and therefore sometimes loses concentration.

To sum up Wilson is the fucking man, and his positives far, far, far, out weight his negatives.
absolutely, which is why i reckon he would have made a better captain than dawson

One of the best and most important signings we have made in years. A fantastic defensive midfielder who is able to break up play as few others can. His true value is even more evident when he is not on the field when we are quickly exposed. A real destroyer with the heart of a lion - I wish we had more like him.

Palacios is exactly what we've needed for years, yeah he's not the most techincally accomplished footballer but he brings the balance all footballing sides need (take note Wenger). We are not the soft touch we've always been. How many of the 0-0's we've had lately would have likely gone the other way without him? He also seems to be showing Hudd what he needs to be adding to his game. Palacios is my favourite Spurs player at the moment.

Well, his passing isn't the greatest and he doesn't score many goals, but to my mind the most damning criticism is that I haven't yet seen him stand on his head on the centre spot playing 'When I'm Cleaning Windows' on an accordion whilst singing 'Deutschland uber Alles' in Xhosa.

Sell, obviously.

I love Xhosa, during revision period last year we were watching Xhosa speaking tutorials, but the clicks are actually impossible, so we just ended up playing quizzes on Sporcle. True story.

I have a friend in Botswana - it is quite startling when he 'clicks', you never know whether he is just 'tutting' like anyone else, or saying something important to you:grin:

Maybe it's not part of the language at all, just that Xhosa-speakers are really disapproving people?

This is pretty cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_l7ty_MH_Y&feature=related

Err anyway yeah Palacios is one cool dude. Exactly what we'd been crying out for, and tbh I think he's been up there with our most consistently good performers throughout the whole season, even when some people suggested he was having a dip in form, I think think we were better off with him in the team than without!

Who can tell? Maybe it is a sign of approval after all. He once won a zebra in the National Lottery. He shot it, and put the butchered meat in his freezer. Dem Botswanans sure is crazy dudes.

Anyway, Wilson is a cool dude. I heard he is so hard he made Chuck Norris pee his pants:grin:

I think part of the problem is that out attacking options aren't as mobile as they should be.
Wilson does his job in midfield and to blame him is just wrong but I think this argument is similar to people who talk about the long ball to Crouch- little is offered with movement of the forward players particularly without Lennon and this leads to people playing a not so good pass.

Agree totally. He's a midfielder that defends, attacks, makes intelligent passes, good vision and can play through balls, the ones that stick to the ground not those carrick type long lobs which his midfield partner tries every once in a while.

He and Modric is vital to our team and should not be questioned.

Palacios gives our midfield a spine that's obviously lacking when he's not in the side. He may not pick apart opposing defenses with passes, but he makes it very difficult for the opposing central mids to keep possession and work though the middle. He's one of our most important players this year.

surely fabregas is not a deep holding mid - if he is, his goalscoring rate is phenomenal for such a position

wilson has been a good buy - but his impact hasn't been as great as berbatov's yet (an FA Cup win or 4th spot would change that) and I think soon gomes will eclipse wilson as he continues to show what an improvement he is on all our keepers over the past ten years or more
