Agree about his mentatlity. He's out there on his own in terms of the work he gets through and his desire to win. His aggression also please me, when compared to some of the fairly meak, wimpish characters lurking in our squad. However, I just wish he had a bit more composure about him. The rushed, misplaced passes, the lunges into tackles he can't possbily win, from behind, the rushes of blood to the head, the needless rugby tackles mean he gives away far too many free-kicks and puts himself in danger of being sent off too often for my liking. If that aggression and desire could be tempered and balanced with a more mature approach, I agree he'd be some player - not dissimilar to Edgar Davids in his pomp, but for my money he's got some way to go yet.In answer to the question, Palacios is really bloody good, possibly our best signing we've made since I started supporting Spurs alongside Keane in 2002. It is no coincidence that we are infinitely much harder to play against since we signed the guy, and, allied to the also brilliant signing of Gomes, we concede so many fewer goals now that this fact alone should tell most of the story.
The guy's mentality is inspirational, he has that unswerving desire not to be beaten - in the Villa game we lost the ball high up the pitch with lots of men forward and Villa launched a counter attack but Wilson tore back to defend our goal and you knew he was going to end up with the ball. Another great moment of his this season was when he won the last minute pen at Everton, when all our heads had dropped he was so determined to win he won that penalty with that fearsome run into the box - that's the spirit we need at Spurs.
But it's not just his tackling, pressing and sheer determination, he really is a good footballer too and I think some fans let a couple of wayward passes a game convince them he can't play. He moves the ball on well, and quickly, often finding intelligent balls through the midfield and joining our attack when we also have good, intelligent players like Huddlestone and Jenas to fill in the gaps left when he does bomb forward.
Fair enough for asking if he is as good as we think, and I personally think he is better than most think and had he *shudder* joned Arsenal I think they would probably win the league. Maybe it's because it was such a shock seeing the player we had craved for donkeys years finally playing for us last season and now that has worn off a bit, but I see the same player we bought last January and cn't help feeling in safe hands when he is about.
