Just seen on Setanta - I think he was a bit unlucky but Tom Huddlestone has been sent off for a bad tackle. That's three times I've seen him sent off now - twice for Under 21s and once for Spurs. He's not someone I think of as a dirty player.

Never in a million years a straight red. Bollocks.

He's afraid to tackle people since his boyhood because he's big and sending offs like this won't do his defensive confidence any good. I am afraid it's a bad news for Spurs.

Yeah, a little harsh I feel.

At least we're through!!

I tell you what, I've enjoyed watching the two U21's games better than the last full squad any day lol

You could tell he was never going to get to the ball though. He just isn't quick enough to get to those. I thought it was harsh, but he didn't need to make the challenge. No big deal though.

the force in which he bounced off Huddlestone was what made up the ref's mind

never a red, I thought he was trying to impose himself on the game too, and using his size as we often say he should.. Hopefully this wont deter him from tackling though, its part of his game we haven't seen in a Spurs shirt yet.

It definately wasn't a straight red, but when you're his size, it can really sway the ref. I liked to see him go for that sort of thing, using his size, it's what he needs to do.

I was pleased with both him and O'Hara last night, Hudd was much better than he was on friday.

i thought campbell was good as well, he was a lone striker with most of the time being abandoned because england where a man down and he still hassled their defence and created himself a couple of chances by harassing the defence. Im sure campbell and bent could play well together just hope its tried so we can get some goals .

The commentator on Setanta did my head in though. He said that Campbell hadn't done much since coming on. Most of the game he was totally isolated. I agree, i think he played well in the situation. He's not best suited to the lone striker role. He's better when he is allowed to drop off a little bit because he works hard. I think Campbell and Bent could really compliment each other for us.

yeah i noticed that to, when your playing 4-4-1 your striker isnt really going to do a lot of damage but the amount of hassle he put on the defence was good and he kept making the welsh defence make mistakes. I think someone said he reminded them of defoe a lot, i agree about this he has quick bursts of speed and good movement. There was one bit when he was in the penalty box and try going round the defender i was hoping he was actually going to side step and smash a shot like defoe always did.

yep hudd and tackling don't sit well together for various reasons - I hope he can come to terms with it

I don't think he's been sent off for a bad tackle in the prem - it was that silly head to head thing that got him the only red for us I remember - (may be wrong of course)

and that red was ridiculously harsh

my heart skipped a massive beat when o'hara hit the ground in agony - I thought he'd done his ligaments - fortunately he got up after a while

I think he should start on sunday - fitness permitting -

wouldn't mind Hudd playing either.

I have to say I wasn't impressed by Campbell - though I understand the thanklessness of his task

after his recent so-so games for us - I think he shouldn't start v stoke

pack the mid with mainly english players like hudd jj o'hara bentley/lennon plus zoko (as I don't think he has a mid wek game so should be fresh)

bent on his own up front

Very harsh. If anything the Welshy deserved to go, both feet off the floor and studs up. Crap refereeing.

see this is what we have been doing and it hasnt been working , bent really needs at least one of the midfielders to really play just behind BEnt rather than a direct 5 in the middle. Jenas did play their one time and it seemed to work quite nicely. We really need to play attacking football and 4-5-1 doesnt do this.

fair comment dg but I just can't see the use of campbell starting on sun so I think it has to be 4-5-1 with the kind of personnel I've mentioned

I presume you want bent and campbell in a 4-4-2?

that's something I was keen on - but 1) JR keeps sticking campbell on the left- what's the good of that

and 2) so far campbell doesn't look up to the prem (of course he's only young etc - but the pressure is on now)

I thought Hudd's position on the pitch yesterday was exactly where we should play him next game, in fact the general set-up of the team yesterday would suit us well right now.

On the subject of Huddlestone. I'm really hoping to see Huddlestone develop more into a Riquelme type of player than a Carrick. I see that as the most likely outcome in his development as a player. I just can't see him as a holding midfielder because he doesn't have the right attributes and has a long way to go to develop into that role. His qualities would be better used in the final third in my mind. I noticed in his two games against Wales that he was pushing a lot further upfield than usual. If he can continue to improve and adapt to a more advanced attacking midfield role, i think we'll see a lot more from him. He should be able to score more goals too.

I think Campbell might be a good option on Sunday depending on Lennons fitness. If we play a lone striker then we need that extra pace in midfield that Lennon gives us. Giovani might work well in that formation though if he plays on the left for example. I still think Jenas and Zokora in the middle is our best option at the moment. And i'd like to see Modric further upfield, either on the left or behind the striker. I still think our best team so far this season was the one we had at Stamford Bridge. All of those players are available for this one too so i'd stick with that but with Corluka at right back for Gunter.

I honestly think that gds shouldn't start on sunday - partly cos of his travels

i also have reservations re modric partly cos of the croatia games

as I say I think english is the answer on sunday (plus zokora especially if he isn't playing mid week)
