ITK links are all a bit spurious. I got to thinking about it though. The guy is clearly one of the elite keepers in world football so probably out of our league but What elite clubs out there need a GK atm?
Friedal has a season at most so maybe it's a case of timing and chucking the kitchen at signing him.

Probably the best option out there, but to be honest I can't see us bothering about a keeper this year. This summer is about Verts and a lot of forwards.

On the contrary, i think we need to strengthen the team in all areas possible and i feel it has to be done now IF the right players are available.

Regarding the GK position in general, i know you'll agree with me that its a critical, critical position - can you imagine if Friedel can only manage one more season and we're left scouring the world for any keeper we get our hands-on because we're desperate. It would be a disaster!!

Striker is the No.1 priority but Keeper is something that needs fixing next IMO. Friedel and Cudicini have a year left realistically (Cudicini may not even have that if we dont renew his contract) and Gomes clearly has no future at the club. If Lloris is available then he is of too good calibre to turn down and we should get him in, even if it takes out a sizeable chunk of the budget.

the few lower league fans i've seen post on another forum have all said butland is pants and can't understand where the hype is coming from, i guess we'll soon see whether he's a joe hart or a joe lewis.

Can't see it myself. Wouldn't a team like Milan or even Barcelona (Valdes has suspect at times) get him before us?

Im sure there would be clubs in for him, but as ever 'if you dont try, you dont get'.

Hopefully we'll be seeing more ITK on him, so far its that he is on a shortlist from what I have seen. Hopefully we will be going all out for him, I cant see who else we would be looking at who could match him for talent and at at a gettable price.

None in this country (bar ourselves, obviously), nor Real, Barca, Bayern, Juve (although Buffon's getting on a bit). PSG's keeper is pretty popular apparently, so I'm not sure if they'd need one although what with Lloris being French number 1 who knows. If we are in for him and he doesn't want £stupid I'd imagine we'd be in with a decent chance.

I've no idea what lower league fans you've been speaking to as most will agree the kid has ability.

He had a bad game at the end of March away to Southend where he was at fault for 3 of 4 goals conceded but other than that he was fantastic. Had he been at Cheltenham for a full season he would have easily been in the L2 team of the year.

He's got all the attributes you need to be a top 'keeper and he will go far. He's an excellent shot stopper, has a maturity well beyond his 19 years and is commanding in the air.

If there's an area of his game he needs to improve it'll be the command of his own box and to be a bit more vocal with his defenders. Both of which will come with age, confidence and regular first team games. Sitting on a bench isn't going to do him any good.

Whether he leaves Birmingham next season or he stays he needs to go out on loan.

I would love to see us sign Butland. The only problem is if we bring someone else in. I don't think he'll be ready in a year if we stick with Friedel and if we sign someone of Lloris' age he'll never get a look in.

Who's the PSG keeper? That Landreau (sp) fella? You'd think he'll end up there especially if they go in for him. He'll be offered huge wages there no doubt. All depends on if they would be looking to upgrade. Lloris could be excellent, he's already a very capable stopper.

I just get the feeling Lloris is too high profile for us, I'd be ecstatic and more than happy to kick Friedel to the side for him though. I just don't see it as being reasonable.

PSG don't need a new keeper, they signed the Palermo GK last summer and he has done well by all accounts.

If he is really available then out of the top teams I only really see Milan in need of a new keeper.

If available and within budget, then we should sign this guy. Brad has been good, but we have no long term options in this department and we need that sorting as well.

Yes we need strikers, but to miss out on Lloris because of signing 3 attacking players would be a shame, because next season we might not be able to sign a decent keeper.

All assuming Lloris is available and interested, though "The Journalist" seems to believe so.

I want him. A young goalkeeper who can stay with us for a long time is a must this summer imo.

The must is if he is available, or someone else of his quality.
If not, then there is no must. We are ok for the moment at GK, so this is really only a topic for me IF Lloris is really available AND affordable.

It is important to have atop keeper when available, but I would not want to shatter all our summer funds on him and be left with no options on strikers.

I am not sure how much truth there is in our interest, but i do hope so for sure.
