Yeah, it's not as though he has gone to a club, stayed there for years and built something.

Man City will be a real test for him, besides Aguero and KDB, they lack a real core there that can get them back to where they need to be, domestically anyway.

The question is, does he have enough time to build something.
Nope but he'll have enough money, and a team that are in the semi finals of the CL already...

To be fair not every manager can manage the best players.
If City win the champions league he will have to win it again because if he takes over the champions of Europe and fails to win it again in the following three years his reputation will take a knock.

There's so much hate/jealousy against this guy it's amazing.
I agree but at the same time, has he done a great job at Bayern?

Yes he has won 3 league titles and one cup but he hasnt had a difficult job as Heynckes did.

Pep has had it very easy at Bayern considering they weakened their main rivals by buying Goetze weeks before the CL final without any say from Dortmund due to a release clause.

Then also getting their main rivals striker for free, who is one of the best strikers in the world. Not to mention they spent a large period of the last three seasons with major injury problems like Gundogan breaking his back and being out for a year and a half also missing Reus for large periods

In terms of the league Bayern have weakened their rivals by buying their best players and its happening again with Hummels.

I think its fair to say Pep had a better team than Heynckes and that Pep went to Bayern knowing that he had to win the CL to get plaudits as a great manager

The issue is he wont commit to more than a 3 year contract as he believes a team cant play a high pressing game for longer than 3 seasons as they get mentally fatigued and stop responding like what happened at barca during his last season

Think he'll flop at City. It's say something about a manager when they win successive league titles and still aren't popular with the fans

'Pep was never our thing'.

I think my problem stems from the fact that his brand of football has always been branded as the best ever, which I thoroughly disagree with. It also says something that as soon as the going got tough with Barcelona he walked.

I guess the fans wanted a typical German style team, not a Spanish style team. It would always be an inferior copy because it isn't them. Bayern has its own identity.

Funnily enough, I don't think City does. Not yet, anyway. They chop and change. Sign and sell lots of players. The style keeps changing. If he lasts more than, say, 2 seasons, he'll have done well and might have given them an identity, but they may well have to endure an erratic first season.

I get it to be honest., I've always had that niggling gripe about these so called 'best managers' in the world.

They pick and choose the best clubs with the best players and the most money - even fricking Harry Redknapp would win titles with those resources.

First managers job was Barca B for a year, then given the A team - who were already the best team in the world, playing that philosophy of football and had done for years.

Great job if you can get it, but if someone went and took Northampton Town to the Champions League, I'd say they deserved that accolade more.

...little steps...league 1 first

Well exactly. Pep came into a team which was arguably the best Bayern team of all time having just won a treble with a German core which he then proceeded to dismantle and replace with Spanish players thus completely changing the make up of how they played with less successful results.

You're right about city but I just can't see him being successful here because this league is less about tactic ingenuity and more about physical prowess, and to coin a cliché it really doesn't have any easy games (except for maybe Villa who'll be gone anyway). He's never been in a situation before where he can't just walk over 80% of a league's teams, and I'm intrigued to see how it turns out.

He has the same arrogance about him as Mourinho but without the same charisma. It will be really interesting to see how he does with City - could be a disaster as the league is soo tough here and the game is played at such speed.

I don't know why People gets a lot of unwarranted hate, it's probably because he gets a lot of praise and people tend to go OTT over him? I think him coming to the Prem will be a good rest of his credentials to see how really good he is, despite going to City who have deep pockets this league is as competitive as ever and he'll need to be on point with his game and squad management.

I'm a proud Pep fan. Not over the top lick his gooch whilst singing a spanish love song to him, But I'm a fan.

Yes, he has always inherited the best teams from the beginning of his career. But that's the beauty of it, It's just the beginning.

He has an entertaining brand of football that was created by Rijkaard, but he has added his own identity to it. It will continue to evolve, his brand won't stagnate. Humans were born to progress, and so will Pep.

He has so many achievements at such young age and deserves the honest accolades he gets.

Some of your critics are correct and justified and I can agree with them, but some are just unjust claims.

Hate Mourinho all you want he's a C***, but Pep deserves a little more respect. Don't love him, but atleast respect him.

I dont get why people keep judging him on how many Champions League titles he wins. It's a fecking hard trophy to win. Fergie won it only twice in 20+ years. Mourinho, twice. He'll come to the PL and show everyone how good he really is.

People said the same about Klopp but IMO he underestimated the intensity of the prem and is finding that teams outside the top 6 will still fight and scrap.

Looking forward to seeing what Pep can bring to the table. This season has shown more than before how big an impact a good manager can have (rather than simply the top teams having the best players)

because that's why Bayern got him. They were already the most dominant club in Germany, the next step is to win the CL and they got the best coach. He replaced Heynckes who was in charge when they lost to Chelsea.

"The signing of Guardiola shows the value of Bayern who want to be on par with the likes of Real Madrid or Manchester United," said Bayern's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer.

That suggests they want the big cup. Or commercial revenue, but they are already a monster in that area. Maybe Ancelotti will be able to do it.

It's not about him not being any good, obviously he is, but in this part of the job he hasn't succeeded.

Like many things there are people going overboard on both sides. He isn't the greatest manager in the world but to say he hasn't achieved anything because of the quality of the sides he has managed is ridiculous.

Different managers have different qualities suited to different jobs. Many managers have taken over huge clubs and failed. He has won 5 straight league titles and was a big part of creating one of the greatest clubs teams of all time, arguably the best.

So his skillset and experience is well-suited to managing a club with huge resources and top quality players. The manager who does a great job at a Championship club isn't necessarily going to do a great job at a top club so the argument that one is better than the other becomes a bit silly.

Really interested to see how he does at City.

I mean, he has failed in some ways. But he hasn't been a failure, if he was do you think the club would be so desperate for him to stay? Despite not winning the CL, they are better side now than they were when he took over, they are a bigger club too. Bayern will benefit from the work he has done for years to come, the same Barcelona have.

People are obsessed with hating on Pep I guess because he commands so much respect in the game, and I think there is an atmosphere of superiority around his teams (whether that comes directly from him or indirectly I don't know). But people go way OTT with the criticism. He's not a demi-god who invented football, so if you judge him by those standards of course he's not going to live up to them. But he's one of the best coaches in the world, his record is stunning, and there is a reason why every top club in the world would like to hire him.

Keep telling yourself that he's going to fail at City because the Premier League is more competitive or whatever, if it helps you sleep at night. There's no reason why he won't succeed there just as he has everywhere else - does that mean City are going to win the league and the CL every year? No, but it's hard to imagine he will be less successful than Pellegrini or Mancini were before him.

Pochettino Klopp Mourinho Wenger Ranieri Benitez Conte. Is that enough reasons he could potentially fail? They cant all win.

That's extremely debatable, they were better under Jupp Heynckes, less complicated and could hurt the opposition in different ways albeit from possession or direct football. Pep has taken Bayern backwards a little considering they were worthy European Champions and the best team in Europe by some distance, now you have to say it's debatable.

Didn't Pep take over a Barca side that finished 3rd behind Real and Villarreal finishing 10 points behind Villarreal and 18 behind Real? It was not a team performing at a world class level that Pep took over from my memory.
