Well, not much time on my hands to add much myself here today, but I think he deserves more than a mention with a full thread on him.

Redknapp has mentioned him recently and crediting Broomfield as the one that spotted Sandro whom we should expect to see play tonight.

I've posted a couple of old news articles on him to get the ball rolling.

Tottenham have confirmed that Ian Broomfield will join the club as chief scout.

58 year old Broomfield, joins the club after two and a half years at Portsmouth and previous spells at Leeds and Villa. The move nearly happened shortly after Harry Redknapp joined the club, but Spurs were refused permission to take him to White Hart Lane.

Broomfield was a promising striker, before rupturing his Achilles tendon just as he broke into the England youth set up and his career, never got beyond the lower divisions with Bristol City, Stockport and a spell in South Africa, before he retired at the age of 26 to join the Police, where he went moved on to the serious crime and murder squads.

After initial part time scouting positions with Southampton and then Leeds, before taking over as chief scout at Elland Road, in 1998, under George Graham, before joining David O`Leary at Villa Park. Finally teaming up with Harry following O`Leary`s sacking from Villa.

This isn't his first spell with us remember - he was first brought in by George Graham (he followed him from Leeds, before later going to Villa with O'Leary).

His big "finds" during his last spell at the club were Dave McEwen and Yannick Kamanan.

A scouts ability is not measured in wether a random fan could do a better job. Thus, a random fan should be able to point to a scouts deficiancies without having to answer questions like that.

A scouts ability is not measured in wether a random fan could do a better job. Thus, a random fan should be able to point to a scouts deficiancies without having to answer questions like that.

But in this instance that 'Random' fan is Dan. Dan who takes 'random' hatreds to players, like Huntelaar, and declres them the worst players ever to exist, ignoring all reasoned argument. Dan who take 'random' obsessions with players, like Arda Turan, declaring them so good that we should sell all players in order to offer wagesof £20 gazillion poounds, and sent out a team of 1, Arda, who will win us EVERYTHING. And, in this instance, Dan, who has 'randomely' decided that Ian Broomfield's success for a scout is to be determined by his brief spell under George Graham at WHL. Dan who will 'randomely' ignore any more successful 'finds' during hsi spells at other clubs or our own. Dan, who will 'randomely' ignore the most prescient point I found in that article - that he didn't become a full-time scout until 1998, so that under George Graham, at WHL, he was virtually still an apprentice. Oh, no, Dan won't even think tht is a factor worth discussing - 'randomely'.
And that is why folk have issues with Dan Ashcroft, and, hence, the comment was made - not because it was a 'random' poster, but because it was a 'specific' poster.
