a player I have always liked, £ 5M would be a bargain and we need more genuine wide players

Tottenham are weighing up a move for Barcelona’s Dutch attacking midfielder Ibrahim Afellay.
The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at German side Schalke, scoring in the Champions League group stage victory over Arsenal at the Emirates, before his campaign was cut short with injury.
However, Afellay is back to full fitness now and eager for a new challenge having had few chances to impress at Barcelona after moving from PSV in 2011.
Both Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with a move in the past but it is Spurs who appear in pole position to land their man.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen to freshen up his attacking options this summer and believes Afellay will provide good competition for places.
Barcelona have been reluctant to sell in the past but are now thought to be ready to let him go for a fee in the region of £5million.
The Dutchman is generally used as a winger but can also play inside, just off the striker.
He has 44 caps for Holland, scoring four times for his country.

How did he go in Germany? Is his injury still an issue?

Very good player before that. Always amazed he ended going for peanuts to Barca a couple of yrs ago.

Hes all cock and no balls in my opinion flashes of brilliance but no where near as gud as he is made out to be, aT 27 he should have developed alot more. Undoubtedly his injury has knocked him alot.

Lufti is a Schalke fan, I'm sure he can give us a good over view of Affelay's performances

He's a good player, just not good enough for Barca, made the wrong move at a key stage in his career.

Last summer I said we should have been all over a deal for him, especially on loan. Can play left, right and central positions much more convincingly than who we chose to sign instead.

He has had a few injuries and is now getting into his late 20's and there is less need for him now in my opinion with Townsend more established, but he is a talent and I think its worth considering if he is going cheap.
