Sami Hyypia

after reading this (BBC)

"Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could raise £7m through the sale of winger Jermaine Pennant and centre-back Sami Hyypia to Stoke"

Would have thought he was ideal, 34, lots of experince. Would have thought playing 20 odd games for Spurs was better than playing for Stoke.

To be fair, he could have been our next Naybet, but King and Woodgate are always going to be world class and don't need his experience and Dawson will gain more benefit from playing with either King or Woody than Hyypia.

I don't think that we should have sold Kaboul, if we want a decent centre half brought, it would be nice to see a bit of pace from him because that's one of Dawson's weaknesses, heaven forbid if they had to play together, and Woodgate isn't the quickest either, and it remains to be seen how quick King is at the moment.

Hyypia probably could do a job for us. Only on a nominal fee or a free. But his lack of pace is a worry. A couple of years too late IMHO. Not that bad a shout though, but someone qiucker and younger if they can find anyone. I really hope we get one in as it's looking a bit thin at CB for us at present.

While I admit it would be very good to get another top defender in as cover/replacement for Ledders, the main problem for me is the lack of a ball-winner just in-front (DM Position). A Gattuso would be amazing. If we get somththing similar in to protect the back four, I bet most of our defensive frailties will suddenly disappear!

The main problem with our defence is that we only ever seem to have our defenders defending. I was watching Newcastle last night and don't think I ever saw Nicky Butt in the opposing teams' box, where-as how often are both Jenas and Modric attacking together. It was the same last year with Zokora and Jenas. Every team tries to get men back when the opposition attack but if our are 20 yds further forward it becomes alot harder. If they are attacking with four men we need to have five (or more) back.

That's why we have been talking about DM for ages now and it seems we're still without DM and LW even those has been our needs past few seasons.

Veloso would be the best signing we could make, he can play CD and DM so he is can cover alot of positions. Same as Corluka as he can play CD DR and DM I really can see us making at least 3 more signings before Mondy...... I HOPE we do.

People bang on and on about a DM and I agree against the stronger teams we do need one but against weaker opposition and at home, with the qaulity we have (on paper) we should we shouldnt have a problem. Alas against Sunderland we did, although they have a good squad of players, I have said it so many times before signing players who have played or are playing in the EPL makes such a difference to lookign abroad. I can see Sunderland finishing in the top half this season and I hope they do, Roy Keane has done a great job.

We could always sign Ronaldo on a free he such a lump at the minute he could easily block a few shots!
