actually, someone mentioned Modric, didn't we keep him for a season after it was clear he wanted to leave?John Scales perhaps not sure, I don't know the whole history of spurs transfers.

He was talking about you, the opinion, the topic is yours. What's the opinion in this case?
So explain how all those players could be kept when they wanted to leave?maybe my definition of possible is different to yours then.
what's the word "possible" got to do with it?maybe my definition of possible is different to yours then.
I'm not sure I've given any opinion though. Just said that I'd sell.He was talking about you, the opinion, the topic is yours.
Yeah we did and Man U kept Ronaldo for a season ultimately those players could not be kept, you count a season as keeping a player I guess, but it doesn't count for me.actually, someone mentioned Modric, didn't we keep him for a season after it was clear he wanted to leave?

But he didn't want to leave bad enough otherwise he would have stood strong and not signed the contract. We kept Darren Anderton when he was courted by man Utd
He said that he was told they had bid for him but sugar and (Francis I think) pressured him in to signing a new contract and he said its a decision he regrets and that he should have signed for United
Other than that pretty much every big player who has been wanted by other clubs (ruling out king who stayed as his injury prevented big clubs actively pursuing him) has eventually been sold after a degree of haggling and in modric's case even a season of prolonging the inevitable
What do you mean?you count a season as keeping a player I guess, but it doesn't count for me.

I mean exactly what I said. What do you mean?
Players have the power, they decide whether they hold to a contract or not. Theoretically you can tell a player that he has to stay for the length of their contract but it just doesn't work like that in practise.they were all under contract were they not? you tell them they're staying. see, not impossible.
and then they don't give 100%. Great idea.they were all under contract were they not? you tell them they're staying. see, not impossible.
You can't rephrase at all? I simply didn't understand it.I mean exactly what I said.
and then they don't give 100%. Great idea.
I don't count keeping a player for one season as keeping the player especially when there is a lot of years still left on his contract. You can't rephrase at all? I simply didn't understand it.
Are you serious? What about Rooney who was one of Everton's own? I'm sure there are other examples too, I can't think of any. Plenty in the lower leagues, Bale obviously left southampton, Lennon - Leeds.
Then why write that essay which was going nowhere? The question in the pole was simple with yes or no for an answer. As
I don't really understand the point of this thread/vote as their are numerous variable not captured by the opening question. .
