Hello all

there are some words which i really would express in wake of our failure to bring the needed DM & top striker.

i was dreaming of us to sign Scott Parker and Dzeko since the end of last season as I rate both players very highly, and I'm sure there are many could have the same opinion as well as both players were top targets for Harry Redknapp .. so they must be the players could make a huge difference to our team whatever if we used 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 ..

and whatever the reasons behind this failure to get them or other targets, what's happened, happened .. i really don't care that much since Man City have their games and other clubs asking for stupid transfer fees; Forlan £17m, Luis Fabiano £20m, Bent £24m, Rossi £30m, Carroll £35m etc..

I'm happy we didn't risk, and we might get our required tools in cheap later ( next summer ) , may be in South America or Scandinvia or The Championship etc... we don't know, but i know Inter paid only £4m for Coutinho, Milan £17m for Pato, Valencia £14m for Banega, Atletico Madrid £18m for Aguero, and we've managed to get our best two players Bale & Modric, both for only £22m, so we could do it again with patience, we don't want other teams laugh at us again just we need to buy, like Bentley £15m or Bent £16m etc..

for now ..

* we have to develop Sandro & O'Hara, for one moment when you saw Sandro tackle as last man in our last game, you can see his true talent, and i believe both players, plus Palacios & JJ could improve a lot if Modric switched to more creative position, we can't stick by only one defensive minded player in the middle while other could use three sometimes !

* even thought Modric played many good games at CM, but i'm sure Modric best position as LM in 4-4-2 or AM/LW in 4-2-3-1, and i can't forget our form in second half of season 08-09 when he played on LM or some of his creativity as AM in 4-2-3-1 like what he did alone vs Chelsea Stamford Bridge two seasons ago 1-1, or Wigan when we beat them 3-0 away and his assists for Pav, and i'm sure there are other games in the same role ..

my teams:

Gomes
Corluka - CB - CB - Ekotto/Bale
Lennon - Sandro - Palacios/Hudd - Modric/Bale
Pav/Crouch - Defoe

Gomes
Hutton - CB - CB - Ekotto/Bale
Sandro/Palacios - Hudd/JJ/O'Hara
Lennon/Pin/VDV - VDV/Mod - Modric/Bale
Defoe/Pav

vs Barcelona :

Gomes
Corluka - CB - CB - Ekotto
Sandro
Huddlestone - Palacios
Modric - Defoe - Bale

let's wait to get the right players in summer rather than risk like Rossi or Carroll for £30-35M !

I understand the sentiment of the OP but it is tinged with naivety too. yes we have dine great to be where we are after "2 points from 8" but of course we would like to push on and make sure that last season wasn't a one off fluke. If it was you can kiss goodbye to Modric, VDV, Bale etc.

So we pinned our hopes on strengthening the squad in the last two windows and aside from VDV dropping in Levy's lap we have to confess that we have failed miserably. Everyone on these boards hailing Levy as some kind of transfer window genius need to have a rethink. Looks like the need for a new stadium may be influencing transfer policy more than we think.

Truth is we have won once in the league in january ( a fortuitous win at home to Fulham) and got shat on by the same team in the FA cup. In fact we have pissed away any chance of progressing in both domestic cup competitions. Once you get out of that winning habit it is really hard to just switch it back on again. Winning breeds confidence and by default more wins. Couple recent form with the amount of injuries we are carrying at the moment and you can see that maybe the picture isn't so rosy, especially as the teams around us have all strengthened.

I'd like to stay upbeat, but until we start winning again and showing the kind of form that enabled us to beat Villa and Newcastle with 10 men, i will remain sceptical. Tomorrow night's game takes on great importance now.

Time for Arry and his crew (as well as the players) to stand up and be counted now.

When Harry quits try and nab Mourinho and hope that he brings Diarra and Benzema with him.

I agree, but HR isnt gonna pick up a youngun for cheap. Hes all about the Phil Nevilles and Scotty Parkers. Big bucks, distinctly average players.

Agree with opening post, the fees are outrageous and tbh not worth putting the club into debt for. We have managed doing it the Tottenham way within our budget should stick by it regardless of spoilt brats complaining Levy and Harry for not chucking money.

I agree we have the players to make the team work. I just don't think Harry is capable of playing them in the right way and bringing them on properly.

Against Blackburn we should be going with:

--------------Gomes-------------------

Hutton --- Gallas --- Bassong --- Ekotto

Lennon --- Sandro --- Modric --- Pienaar

----------------VDV-------------------

-----------Pavyluchenko---------------

But i doubt we will.

I generally like the look of your team v barcelona mate. I also agree on jamie o hara, he was quality all of last season and why were we trying to get adam when o hara is just the english version?

You are right about sandro, he is still a new signing in my opinion, and hopefully woodgate can feel like one to.
