Be interesting to see what happens with Eriks contract situation, been a long time since a well valued player of ours got into the last year of a contract.
I suspect a lot will depend on how the surgery goes, but I'd be amazed if he wasn't offered a new contract - even if it's just to keep his value relatively high.

A lot of times re-hab is the preferred course of action - surgery is usually a last resort for player and club. So, before undergoing an invasive procedure it makes sense to try alternatives. It did not work in this case.

I agree with that theory generally, but you wouldn't wait for four months (or however long it's been) before making that call.

I don't know what's gone on with Lamela, but if this is what happened then it doesn't look like a particularly impressive bit of physioing.

Yeah - hard to say. Wasn't there a big disagreement between Lamela and the club phyisos over his back issues also?

Wouldn't surprise me if they knew he required surgery for months but he was refusing. He's clearly had many personal issues and maybe for a few months he just didn't give a fuck about football. Maybe going into hospital and having surgery just wasn't something he wanted to do whilst dealing with issues in his personal life.

If going along with that theory hopefully him agreeing to surgery is statement that he's motivated again.

I like him, I don't think he's as great as others but I think he'd be a very good option in the 3-4-2-1 formation. Him, Son and a new striker on bench would make the squad look much healthier next season. I hope he extends deal and we can see how he does next season.

All we need now is Lemon to determine his mineral deficiencies and the state of his piss and we have all the information we need (y).

As if by magic, on another thread, just a few minutes ago...

Imaging scans often don't uncover causes of pain. Given the lack of visible injury, then I ever more suspect it is something like lactic/Uric acid residues, or CRH related.

:D

May be the club were hoping it would clear up as the hip is supposed to be up there with the heel in terms of areas to avoid surgery due to the potentially complications and long term issues. It's Dembele's hip that's his main issue and he's a prime example of the long term implications.

No offence, but are you a medical expert? This is total speculation.

I myself had a debilitating physical problem that top consultants in London tried to solve with non-invasive procedures for four years before they resorted to potentially life-changing surgery.

Such issues do exist. For all we know, the surgery might have a high risk of short- or long-term complications. It certainly doesn't sound like a simple problem.

Lamela

"I have to have an operation. I tried everything to recover but unfortunately my hip is still not 100% so I can't compete at the level I want to. I'll face this challenge with a positive attitude and can't wait to get back with the team and be stronger. Thanks everyone for your support! "

Quite a difficult situation for the club...Lamela needs a new contract but they won't offer one to a player about to go in for surgery...

I really hope we keep him, but i'm not convinced we will.

Levy will offer him a new contract whether he wants to keep or sell him, puts the club in a better bargaining position either way.

This is when it would be prudent to exercise the option for further Year plus, then negotiate new contract middle-end of 2017/2018 season. That would be prudent, if the long term aim is to keep him. If not, then sell him endow next season.
