Don't like that at all. I get the feeling that one, or more, Spurs home game will be played overseas in the next couple of years.

So do I actually, if we dont I would be very dissapointed, considering that that would mean that we didnt quallify for europe:wink:

52,000 would probably be just about enough. the very top teams have 80,000 etc i.e AC and barca but we aren't that good and teams like ajax etc have won major honours with a stadium around 50,000 so i'd be pretty satisfied with that sort of size.

This isn't the point, it's about maximising our potential.

If the club thinks that we can realistically only fill 52000 seats week in weekout then this is the size of stadium we should build or extend the Lane to.

If we think we can realistically fill 60000 then we should build 60000, if it's realistic to fill 70000 week in week out we should build 70000.

We are probably only going to get 1 go at this so we need to get it right, it would be a disaster to build for 52000 and then have 10000+ people on the waiting list for a season ticket.

Am I the only one who is really not looking forward to seeing the new stadium designs. Levy & Co only have one thing in mind and that's £££ and with talk of them using the same people that worked on the arsé and Wembley makes worried. Both of those stadiums have been built with one thing in mind and to generate £££ from the corporates without any thought of the supporters. There is obviously nothing wrong with making as much money as possible but I wish they would think of the fans in the same way as Liverpool have with there new stadium. When you look at arsenals ground & Wembley its clear that the supporters have been overlooked when the stadium was designed and the designers have not thought about the atmosphere at all. With a belt of prawn sandwich eaters between the two tiers it totally cuts the stadium in two and both grounds since opening have had a shit atmosphere (was expected with arsenal but even by their standards its been bad)
One of the main attractions for people going to watch football is the atmosphere, more and more we are witnessing grounds being re-developed without any thought of this at all. WHL has one of the best atmospheres in the country but by the sound of that article, that's got bugger all to do with the new stadium plans so we better get used to grounds like the grave because it look as if we will get our own very shortly...
Fingers crossed that Levy proves me wrong and he is in fact a football man as well as a businessman..

52,000 seats will be plenty for now, but I hope we will be able to make it even bigger in near future if we need to, which hopefully we will.

If we're expanding the current stadium though, there's going to be a limit, and I imagine that 52,000 will be it.

And the cost purported of WHL expansion will probably include transport solutions and area regeneration as part of the agreement with the relevant councils and authorities.

This article tells us the square root of fuck all that we didn't know already. Must be a slow news day for this to be dragged up again.

Perhaps but what would be the point in rebuilding the whole stadium (which is the suggestion) and then rebuilding it all or part a few years down the line? If they don't want to build a massive stadium now, we should be in a position where that's possible by building a giant west stand and then rebuilding the other stands if and when neccessary

It's better to have 10 seats empty than 10 people who can't get tickets. For a game like Wigan etc., yes we sadly won't get 60,000 but for a game against arsenal we could get 100,000 and of course it allows them to lower ticket prices to attract more fans but without losing revenue

Haven't we got a waiting list for season tickets of something like 16,000, so adding 16k to our 36k current capacity would be the minimum the club would sensibly consider.

People have compared the potential development to Liverpools, and Wembley. Well Liverpools plans are to increase capacity, with the design capable of adding further capacity in the future, so you would hope we would do something similar. And for Wembley a lot of work was done on the acoustics, to keep the noise in the stadium, its just that there's not been a decent game/support there. If we get to Wembley you'd hear the difference.

We could also be under restrictions from the council or to do with the transport and infrastructure which doesn't seem like it will be improved anytime soon.

The trouble with the transport is that on Sunday there are only half the number of trains to WHL and Bruce Grove that there are Monday-Saturday, and no trains at all to Northumberland Park. A lot of the bus lanes are open to all traffic on a Sunday too. And we now play a very high proportion of our home games on a Sunday.

52k is tidy for us, but I would have prefered 62 - no one-ups on Arsenal, I just think we are bigger than 52.

My only thing is; judging by those involved it would seem we won't be getting anything unique in stadium design as many of us had hope??

Fingers still crossed for the new year announcement though  (San Siro design!)

Surely if we get the San Siro design then by definition that won't be unique??

We're talking £300m (and how accurate that is, who knows?). It seems the estimated cost of Liverpool's new stadium has already shot up to £500m, and they haven't even started work on it yet. We still have to buy up the Jehovahs' Witnesses' Hall and the sheet metal works in Paxton Road (the latter supposedly owned by a Gooner), for which we're liable to nee CP orders like Arsenal got.

On the whole, a phased expansion of the current ground seems most likely to me, but who knows?

Sooner CL the better then eh.
