Most if not all of us know how stupid, uneducated and unsophisticated most of the footballers are. What about the intelligent ones?

Walcott and Bostock seem well educated.

Espen Baardsen did a degree whilst playing for us and now works in the City as a hedge fund manager

Depends on the definition of intelligence.

I for example, have always been reasonably good at maths, but have no clue about music.

For that reason Glenn Hoddle & Chris Waddle will always be genuis' in my eyes for Diamond Lights.

Heh heh... the new Chas 'n' Dave.

Jenas, Klinsmann, Henry, Cantona, James, etc, etc, are all thoughtful and articulate. Martin Jol is into fine art. He was a footballer.

Um...

Nedum Onouha (obviously more so than me, because I've just hideously misspelt his name.)

Slaven Bilic has a law degree

Petr Cech also does something like law as a degree

Liniker seems pretty smart, and gavin peacock always comes across well (as a pundit)

Iain Dowie, Lawrie Sanchez, Steve Coppell and Steve Heighway all have degrees. A number of players have studied (are studying) for degrees whilst still playing including David James and Fabrice Muamba.

Steve Palmer who played for Watford and QPR and was (is?) involved with the Spurs Academy went to Cambridge University.

Lineker and Brooking both got A levels.

There was another player at Spurs at the same time as Ardiles/Galvin with a degree but my mind has gone blank (old age). I'm pretty sure he was a central defender - perhaps John Lacy?

Socrates was indeed trained as a doctor - a paediatrician.

I met Shay Given at a Northumbria Uni open day about 10 years ago - he was studying for an IT qualification & was giving a talk about how great it was to study there. He was a very pleasant chap & is indeed suprisingly short for a 'keeper...

I don't know if he passed his exams, though.
