On the question of Lennon, I have a feeling that part of the reason why he was much more effective several years ago than he is now is because of how the majority of teams play against us. If you think back to the time before we qualified for CL, the majority of our opponents would push up and leave a lot of space behind their defensive line, which gave pacy players like Lennon much more room to exploit. After that point however, more and more teams started dropping deep.

Rose doesn't want to provide width.
He wants to get in the box, or cut in and have a shot himself.
In attack, he plays like an inverted winger.

I didn't like this under AvB and i don't particularly like it now. one inverted and one conventional is a better balance, especially when one of our fullbacks is being played out of position.

I'm a big fan of inverted wingers provided...

1) we have lots of possession
2) our full backs play as wingers
3) our full backs can cross
4) the inverted wingers offer a goal threat

Lamela and Walker
Chadli and Rose

Both of these fit the points above

Lennon and Davies
Townsend and Naughton

Less so

But Poch doesn't START with inverted wingers does he? They switch during the game, but every prem line up has had Lamela on the right and chadli on the left.

Exactly why he does in fact start with inverted wingers. Lamela is left-footed, Chadli right.

Shit. I actually thought it was the other way around. Not that anyone could blame me, it's not like they regularly crack them into the back of the net with the same foot all the time.
