Wow. Just fucking wow.

Absolute generational talent.

I know the likes of Hoddle & Ardiles etc get the plaudits/recognition for how brilliant they were, and rightly so.

However, in my opinion (and in my 46 years of being on this god forsaken planet) Gascoigne was the most naturally gifted player we've had at this club.

He just did things that you'd shake your head at in disbelief, without even thinking about it & with that cheeky grin of his that said "and I'll do it again in 2 minutes you ****".

My old man was old school, born in the 30s and had seen players like Charlton & Moore etc, and although he was a Wolves fan he said Greaves was the best he'd seen.

But he always said nobody was a patch on Gazza when it came to pure talent. England's best ever player?

Wonderful memories. I was grounded that week for god knows what but my old man let me go out after we won. On another note who would have thought all those years ago that we would still have to see Smith's ugly mug every week. If I'd known that I would have stuck with crouqet.

Truly brilliant player - made you want to go to every game - sad thing is probably wouldn’t get into current team - not disciplined enough…….no need for creative midfielders apparently

Watched a great documentary on him last night on sky documentaries
got to say got a lump in my throat watching such sheer talent and where he is in his life now
Gazza was an absolute Genius of a footballer
word Genius banded about to easy now days but he was the real deal

Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? He did 31 years ago today. How is it that long ago?

Where has the time gone ? Staggered to find it is so long ago.

I'm refusing to acknowledge it was that long ago.

You can both fuck right off!

And to think about how many modern day supporters haven't seen what is arguably one of the best goals ever scored at the old Wembley. Absolutely the best ever free-kick, in my opinion.

They don’t even remember the old Wembley. How old you feel now?

Anyone watch the documentary last night?

It struck me that we didn't protect the lad at all. We just let him off to be built up by the press and then absolutely destroyed. A young talented kid, miles from home in a big city who clearly had issues and we just let him off. A dereliction of duty from the club and others but that's how it was in those days I guess. Fergie's handling of Giggs a few years later was probably prompted by our mishandling of Gazza.

What a player though.

Different times. Problems like Gazza's were routinely ignored. Just look at Arsenal with Tony Adams a complete piss head, Kenny Sansom the same and Merson either pissed or shoveling marching powder up his schnoz.
