Is the Real Madrid method inevitable??

With supreme irony Roberto Soldado comments in the Guardian today that Real Madrid 'develop good players but then put their faith in foreign signings'. Exactly what we have just done with Soldado himself and the likely sale of Bale and the actual sale of Caulker.
He then appeals to Bale to stay.Think it through Roberto.
Have Spurs given up on rearing their own or buying young English players and developing them .
Is this model outmoded and not possible today's financial environment.

There's a bigger pool of players to choose from nowadays because of modern communication, etc

Add to that the instant results-driven culture of modern football and what you get are fewer and fewer academy grown players, the higher up you go in the league

There's no harm in having an academy as a money-making tool though

Produce 'inferior' talent for other teams

No, if anything the opposite is true. Look at Barca, look at Dortmund, look at how much we've just spent on our new training facilities and how the club is being raved about from the under 9s upwards. It may be that our current batch of developed youth are maybe one phase too early to see true fruits of the club's labour, but it's an indicator that things are moving in the right direction. It wasn't long ago that the academy was barely producing Championship players bar a 1 in 100,000 player like Ledley.

I feel that IF FFP is enforced then clubs will be compelled to look towards manufacturing their own talent more and more, only entering the market for a marque player or filling a gap that their squad needs strengthening.

It's probably all bollocks though, it'll end up as everyone spending massively and Barça being the only club to do it

With Real it's different I think, they basically have the pic of any spanish or foreign players. They can more or less get whoever they want.

Regarding us, it's clear we're trying to bring our own youth through but even some of those are foreign. Bentaleb and Ceballos for example.

What it comes down to for me though is a lot of the British players are either not good enough or just too expensive with a few exceptions.

It's looking like we could lose Caulker and Bale this window and I don't see any Uk players that will be anywhere near the similar level that we could bring in for a decent fee.

I honestly can't think of any British wingers that I'd want us to buy. Would love to know if anyone knows about any decent (British) wide players that we could realistically get.

With Monaco and PSG still spending ridiculous amounts of money, I really find it hard to see how FFP will be implemented. I don't see Platini banning those teams from european competition.

These 2 clubs have to be the target for so many reasons. It's almost about the evolution of the game. With FFP and the financial situation of the world it will start to make sense for clubs o be rewarded for developing their own!

A lot of big clubs including RM , will want FFP enforced, as the clubs you mentioned plus City etc can blow them out of the water, financially.
