The club have a good working relationship with Sporting after signing defender Eric Dier last summer, and the White Hart Lane outfit are confident they can complete a deal in the coming weeks.

Personally think it's a strange move unless we are offloading both Soldado and Adebayor this summer. Reason I say that is Slimani doesn't offer a much different skillset to Harry Kane, and I was personally hoping for a pacier striker option. I highly doubt we sign 2 new strikers while selling off our current backups.

Didn't we get around being a negative relationship with Sporting because Dier's family did the work to make sure that we knew there was a buyout clause?

I thought i saw where Dier's dad was the one who let us more or less advertised that he could be gotten on the cheap and then Spurs just activated the clause with Sporting...end result was that Sporting didn't have an issue with Spurs but had an issue with Dier's dad for shopping him in sort of an underhanded manner.

15M does seem a lot in comparison to bony when Swansea signed him, bony was younger, cheaper and had a much better goal record in a similiar level league. According to wiki slimani has 15 in 38 for sporting and bony was 46 in 65 for vitesse

And Bony was always ready-made for the EPL. I think Slimani could be a 50/50 type or boom-or-bust, if you will.

Yeah i would figure that they would be unhappy about it....but i thought they viewed it as a case of "If not Spurs then it would have been someone else." but their issue was that Dier/Dier's family started quietly "shopping" him around without speaking to Sporting first so that Sporting could offer a new contract (without the clause) or work to keep him around.

but i am not sure.....i just remember something like that floating around when it happened.
