It was a clumsy over-enthusiastic lunge. I don't see that Ampadu tried to hurt him but it probably just about warranted a red. Flying makes it sound like it was two-footed though, which it wasn't.

IMO it's right on the line of red/yellow. There has been a trend in top level football to lean towards yellow on those tackles. The position of the studs on the top of the foot is yellow, but I think the speed/force was enough to bring it into excessive (red) territory.
