The over reactions are down to the frustration of how close we are.. Imagine those players reaching they’re potential with another WF and CM added to the squad.. really doesn’t seem that much to want
But you do also realise that it's a lot harder to upgrade what we already have, as opposed to Everton or Wolves? And we will never throw money about willy-nilly like Liverpool are doing now, not under Levy. And that's something I'm totally OK with.

Has the window closed yet?
Very optimistic as usual I see. :playful: Did you not see Poch comments back in May about wanting players in before the tour? It doesn't matter if it has closed or not, we've left - reading the numerous reports out there - tons (and most likely too much?) work for the little time that is left before the window closes. Do you really think that in two weeks we'll manage to sell Dembele, Rose, Toby, possibly Sissoko, Janssen, Nkoudou and Llorente - and on top of that actually replace them? Seeing that we've worked on a championship youngster for 2 months + now, I doubt it.

The over reactions are due to people being weak and brainwashed by the media and oppositions fans ridiculing us for choosing to keep our powder dry unless the right player is there to bring in. It's that very philosophy that has seen us spend less than everyone else in the top 14/15 teams in the Premier League over the last 4 years yet finish above each and every one of them at least once since Pochettino took over.

I trust the manager and I trust that he isn't like Mourinho or Klopp. If Pochettino isn't 100% about a player who will cost the club a lot he is happy not to pull the trigger and to focus his talents on what he does with his team on the training pitch. Too much Skysports and football manager has made people think the only way you can have success is to buy it. As my brother says to me, this FIFA generation of football fan is filth

I don't know what's going to happen in the next two weeks and neither do you. Dembele and Rose by all accounts aren't leaving so no idea why you've listed them. What you've done is listed a load of players you think we should be selling, not necessarily a list of players the club wants to sell this summer. It seems ridiculous to me to lose your shit over what you think is going to happen.

Pure speculation from my part, but I wonder if the Sissoko deal has made Levy and possibly (no matter how much he tries to build him up in the media) Poch even warier of making snap decisions on players.

People forget we have a team yet to reach their peak. They are far from the finished article. People literally think cash spent = success.

With respect, apart from a few teenage FIFA playing virgins on twitter, I doubt people think that.

However, if we have a weakness in the squad why not try to address it? You're right to say the team isn't at it's peak, but we can't rest on our laurels. We aren't perfect. Even the best teams refresh their personnel every summer. Real Madrid, Barca, Man City, Bayern et al don't sit back and revel in their success and wait for their squads to reach their peak. Even the best teams need to improve, otherwise existing players get complacent.

No team can afford to stand still. We've done well over recent seasons but we can't afford to get complacent now. No mega money spending splurge is necessary but one or two smart buys will improve us, IMO.

Latest on Grealish social media watch: Looks like Grealish is on the way to the airport with the rest of the Villa squad travelling to Germany for a friendly this weekend - this shouldn't come as a surprise though...

Even though he did like Zaha's instagram post about being patient...

I know what historically semi-reliable journalists have written over the past 1,5 month, and all of those players have been linked out several times, albeit some of those reports now slowing down (such as Dembele's), but fact is that all of them have by all accounts been up for sale for some time now.

Fair point made but last season, the only summer signing that genuinely made an impact on the 1st team was Sanchez. Aurier, Foyth, Gazzaniga & Llorente didn't exactly pull up trees and when I look at the squad, it's not in dire or obvious need for drastic improvements.

We have a few tricky situations on the horizon regarding Toby & Mousa but they are still Spurs players and I can't think of anyone in today's market better than those two that we could realistically sign to replace them with.

I'd love to know two players who we know are definitely available, within our price ranges who we should sign knowing we are still 3 players over our homegrown quota restrictions in Europe. I'm sure that there are things going on behind the scenes but if we've identified Grealish & Martial etc and their respective clubs aren't playing fair ball at the moment yet there is still two weeks to get potential back ups in when last year we signed 5 players with 1 week left to go, would anyone really blame the club for using this period to their advantage knowing that's the team are still in pretty impressive shape going into the season regardless?

I will say one thing though, and that is that our supposed faffing about makes me even happier about the window closing before the season starts. I've always wanted the squad to be confirmed as "this is what we have to work with" before the first game of the season, whether we make any signings in the end or not.

Jack Grealish transfer: Spurs believe they can STILL snap up midfielder for £20m despite Aston Villa takeover

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants talented No.10 Grealish to compete with Dele Alli behind Harry Kane in attack

Spurs chief Daniel Levy still believes he can snap up Jack Grealish for no more than £20million despite Aston Villa's takeover.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants talented No.10 Grealish to compete with Dele Alli behind Harry Kane in attack.

Levy had been holding off bidding as he was trying to exploit Villa's cash woes under Dr Tony Xia, which left the Championship club on the brink of administration.

It saw Levy only belatedly open talks last week over buying Grealish, 22.

But Villa were saved from the brink when embattled Chinese businessman Xia sold a majority stake to billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

The duo have since backed boss Steve Bruce and want to see Villa back in the Premier League after their near miss in the play-off final.

But there is on-going uncertainty at Villa Park over Grealish as the club are still under pressure from Financial Fair Play rules.

The player himself has told pals he is tempted at the prospect of a return to the Premier League to play behind Kane and hopefully boost his international aspirations too.

Now MirrorSport understands infamous negotiator Levy is still hopeful of getting his man without paying more than £20m.

It’s strange that this Nursey fellow is the only journalist linking us with him. Nobody else is jumping on the bandwagon. Anyone else think that’s strange?

Nursey covers Villa a lot and seems to have decent connects with them so no reason I know of to doubt him. Pretty sure John Percy at the Telegraph has also spoken of this deal with his Villa connects.

We've also had our itks heavily link is with him and other jounos I follow trust JP and Nursey on their Villa knowledge.

Agent on Talksport(Phil Smith) seems fairly convinced that Grealish(and all the rest of the squad who would have been available) is staying, after the cash injection.

Genuine question: Has anyone on Talksport ever been right about any deal ever that hasn't already taken place?

If that is true you would have expected Villa to come out and say so to cheer their fans up if nothing else.

It would also boost their chances of signing players if they know the club will be keeping their best players. I'm yet to hear loud mouth Bruce talk about the cash invested solving all of their financial issues

There you go, you said it yourself in the 1st sentence - we made a signing last summer that made an impact on the 1st team (Sanchez). That's all I'm hoping for this summer really. One key signing in central midfield that can make an impact on the 1st team. I'd be happy with that. In my view there is a weakness in that position when you consider the various fitness issues of Winks, Wanyama and Dembele. We did very well last season but one area that was a cause for concern was midfield. Towards the end of the season the team seemed to be running on empty and our midfield was being outmuscled and outplayed where previously we were fairly dominant there. So yes I think one key signing could make a difference.

As to players that are available, I'll be honest - I don't know. But then I'm not a professional scout. I'll leave that to the club :)

So Nursey and Percy are linking us to Grealish.

Any word yet on Lord Melchett's views? Or Blackadder's? Or Baldrick's?

Is this all a cunning plan? Or are we all losing our heads over nothing?
