People who moan about a certain player without seeing him play consistently annoys me.If one the best managers in the world thinks he can make a player out of him then believe the man and stop crying ffs.
Didn't you know? Most of our fans tune in to watch Villa every week. Always have done.

I think we signed Eriksen pretty late on, but that was an exceptional window.

It just seems a bit odd that this window (which many have said, including Poch, is a truly key window for us) the first signings we’re making are interesting but non-essential punts like Grealish whilst the really important ones will be left until late (with all the risk that goes with that).

Judgement reserved until end of window as always, but early signs are not encouraging.

as i've put in another reply or 2 or possibly 3.

1, we want de Ligt, he only played a friendly the other night, so no point trying to buy him before, just in case he got injured. since then it's been rumoured we have had a 48m bid turned away Ajax are looking for a bidding war.

2, we want Martial, Man U don't want to let him join a rival, especially as we are playing hardball over Toby, plus if they do let us have him, it will be closer to the start of the season (if I was selling to a rival, I would make sure he had as less possible pre-season as possible)

3 whatever other targets we might have, might possibly be with their international squads getting ready for the biggest competition in a players life. they are not going to ask if they can take 2-3 days off to go sign or at least talk to a possible future team

we have 2 months and 1 day before the window closes, and with it being a WC year pre season is going to be disrupted.

Lovely piece.

The Villa fans really do love him, and he loves Villa. I’ve seen a clip on YouTube of him talking about his absolute adoration for the club, it’ll break his heart to leave regardless of where he goes.

I imagine he’s always seen himself as a one club man, but that being a practical idea was riding on Villa getting back into the Prem at this attempt.

This is why I don’t think the likes of West Ham or Leicester offer an optimal solution for him - leaving Villa is going to hit him hard, he needs to move to a club full of professionals with a strong manager who can keep him on track.

Not some dreary East Midlands crisp-noncing shit den where a bloke who has Red Bull for breakfast is currently trying to oust his own manager.

Also getting a player for 15m to be used as a bench player shouldn't cause you all to lose your sleep at night.
I'd rather have those 15m as a deal sweetener for a starter. I don't see many reasons as to why this guy deserves a spot ahead of a fit Winks.

The only two negative things to say about Grealish are:

1) He's not a foreigner.

2) He plays in the Championship.

If both those facts were not true, we'd be all over him, but instead, I'm reading a lot of Spurs fans saying they're underwhelmed by the prospect of us signing him, and they're saying it largely because they remember him from 4 years ago when he was a moody young dickhead, but the fact is, that he has matured immeasurably and is now an excellent young player of only 22 (and yes, I watched quite a few Villa games this past season) and many of their best performances were largely down to him.

If we did manage to bring him in, I'd be absolutely delighted. Fantastic potential.

He's also the first (I assume) signing and probably isn't the bollocks on playstation.

A really interesting article, thanks.
Pochettino says that he improved Vertonghen by telling him to stop slouching and look like a warrior.
I wonder if he could make a similar, simple improvement to Grealish. On the pitch he looks like a petulant schoolboy with his socks rolled down and plays like a petulant schoolboy sometimes too. I think this is part of the reason why his potential signing has been so poorly received here.
I’d back Pochettino to tell him to start looking and behaving like a grown man and that this would help him approve.

I don’t think your two points are the only two negatives.

Many remember him going getting drunk in the middle of Villa’s relegation battle.

Some Irish feel he used them then played for England once he no longer needed them.

If a player in the second tier of other foreign leagues performed as Grealish has this season some fans would have doubts over the signing.

Let’s not go down the route of pretending we know how others have formed their opinions.

That assessment of him is so far out of whack, it's not true. I assume you didn't watch any Villa games last season, because if you did, you wouldn't automatically assume he's the same young head strong 18 year old monkey he was four years ago.

He's grown up and matured and is still only 22 years old, and is far and away Villa's best player.

There are very few players we see consistently.

There are dozens of players I wouldn’t be interested in .

Fans don’t only base their views on what they see first hand.

We read reports, what the players current fans think of him, stats, some highlights etc.

This is a discussion board. We discuss.

Simply saying I agree with the management is not much of a discussion.

It is possible to support and have your own opinions.

He’s never played for either, and I don’t know a single Irish person who feels aggrieved by this.
