Grealish is only 22, he has massive potential and can turn out to be brilliant under the correct manager - Pochettino. If he were to thrive at a different club we'd all be gutted because we didn't take a shot with him. So lets take the risk and sign him!

He’s never played for either, and I don’t know a single Irish person who feels aggrieved by this.

Irish people in this thread have said what I reported.

Grealish himself said he’d had a lot of abuse from Irish fans since choosing to play for England.

It is on public record, I am not making it up.

I'm Irish and have never heard this.

Probably some dicks on twitter - every country has them. Not to be taken seriously.

I have seen him play a few times and I feel he would be kind of meh for an attacking midfielder/10. But, if he's up to it (defensively, etc.), he is intriguing as an 8/sort of box to box guy.

I don’t take it seriously or agree with the idea that Grealish has a bad character.

I was just responding to a poster who said the only reason people are negative towards Grealish is he is English and plays in the Championship. I believe that is a baseless assertion.

I’m also Irish and have also never heard this.

I call bullshit.

Again there are posts from Irish people in this thread who had some problems with his character so not bullshit.

Like usual the real abuse was on Twitter though.

So which two Irish people are you going to select as representative of the entire race?

Not even close to what I said.

You have jumped into a conversation then not bothered to take on board what the conversation was .

A poster said the only reason people are negative towards Grealish is he is English and plays on the Championship.

I pointed out there were other reasons people were concerned about the signing.

For you to turn into me thinking anything I have said is representative of the Irish people is so ridiculous I think I am going to make you the second person to go on my ignore list.

Jack Grealish played for Ireland for several youth levels before opting to play for England. Some Irish people, myself included, are a bit sore about that. Not just because he didn’t choose us but because he is a very talented player and we don’t have a lot of them. And yes, he is talented and playing in a club in the Championship has nothing to do with it. The wife is a Villa fan so I see plenty of him. And we get linked with players all over the world who people have strong opinions of so it’s not hard to believe people might tune into Championship games every once in a while. And he has had a bit of a party boy rep in the past. Stepped out of line a few times. Basically at the age of 22 not all his headlines have been made on the pitch. But he has knuckled down and at that age could easily be given a clean slate. Do I think we should pay £40m? No. But we live in a world where Sissoko was £30m so it’s not my money to spend. Can he do a job at Spurs? There’s no guarantees but quite possibly. We won’t sign him unless someone believes he can. Glad to have cleared that up.

And I’ve never once given him grief on Twitter because that’s for nobs. But I do call him Judas to wind up the Wife. Honestly, how could she expect me to cheer on a team with Grealish and John Terry? Women.

Having lost Sam Johnstone back to Utd, would be happy to send Gazzaniga to Villa for a year, maybe CCV too if he fails to impress Pre Season, let them soften to blow of losing the hometown boy, without them having to pay transfer fees, which they can’t afford!

But apparently me saying there are some Irishmen who don’t like him for playing for England after representing Ireland at other levels is something I have made up.

This is despite the fact that there are posts right here stating exactly what I have said.

True enough though tbh with the amount of Northern Irish players ROI have nicked from us over the years it's good to see them get a taste of their own medicine! Lol (joking kinda..)

And now an Irish man has come forward you have been somewhat vindicated. We move on.

Wouldn’t have worked that way in the 70s and 80s but we won’t go into that here.

We move on!
