I hope your not desperate to sign any striker at any cost. Yes if Kane gets injured our season might be over, but I'm not willing us to sign anyone that could affect us negatively for the next 4 years.

Erm....No. No I'm not. What an odd thing to suggest.

Although not my first choice, Martinez is a damn sight better than 2 of our 3 strikers so I don't see how he could have such a negative effect on the club.
My point is that we need a striker but the fact that Soldado is a bit of a flop hasn't dissuaded me from me wanting us to buy expensive foreigners imports.

Have you actually seen him play? Because he really isn't.

It's like thinking Darren Bent would be the answer when Defoe and Mido were inconsistent.

Are you kidding me? Have you actually seen Ade & Soldado play over the last year? If so, I find it hard to believe you could say he's not better than both of them whether we're speaking statistically or just what he can offer.

I feel like somehow people have got the impression that I think Martinez is the messiah and £28m is bargain for him. I don't. He wouldn't be close to the top 10 strikers I like to see at Spurs but I still maintain he's an upgrade on Ade & Soldado. And, we need an upgrade sooner rather than later.

Just to add, I actually like Soldado and still hold a glimmer of hope that he'll remember where the goal is at some point.

Why would he be £28m? With the end of 3rd Party Ownership the 3rd party's will want to cash in. This means that there should be a splurge of players available come summer dropping the values.

Out of everyone we've been linked with, I'd say that this is the least likely.
Usually I'd agree with that but when you consider his age it's probably the last chance for Porto to cash in, soon as he turns 29 they can forget getting anything over 20m for him. Not saying we will sign him by the way but I do believe he's available for much less than his buy-out.

Wasn't Porto reportedly looking for more like 40m for Martinez the same summer we brought in Soldado?

Edit: This post was in response to individuals saying "we should have bought Martinez instead of Soldado" because the prices, if the reported fee we paid for Soldado is accurate, as well as the price rumored for Martinez in that same summer, are true, they are quite different values.

I think I read he won't sign a new contract so his value will be on the way down

Yeah, I'm sure it is at this point. My point (which I didn't elaborate on) was that Soldado was probably at the top of the spectrum as far as how much we wanted to spend and Martinez was substantially higher than that figure (if the rumors are to be believed and the wanted 40m at the time).

Probably
But at the time Soldado appeared the better quality player
I think missing out on Benteke was a massive mistake for us

Soldado never had the qualities to succeed in the Premier League, Martinez did. I agree though that Benteke would have been best or anyone would have been able to see that Bony was going to be a success. We really didn't have a clue what we were doing that Summer.:banghead:

Yep, those people also didn't appear to take into account that, at the time, THFC was almost certainly not a club that would be of interest to Martinez, because he would have much bigger clubs than ours fighting for his signature, and would offer significantly more of a financial incentive to him.

This story reminds of the Brazilian striker who shall not be named as i got so sick of seeing it season after season. 3rd party ownership, buy out clauses, miles of red tape and then theirs Levy thrown into the mix = Headaches.....this one could could be the next Never ending story.
