It’s worth remembering that homosexuality is still illegal in Senegal, so that likely informs someone’s sensibilities, no matter how backwards and oppressive we all think it is. We don’t know what kind of backlash the likes of Gueye are getting at home for appearing to be supporting these kind of causes. It’s not really for us to force people to be campaigning for something.
I can see why people would be annoyed and hurt by the decision though, and there’s something very archaic about people like Sarr tweeting that Gueye is a “real man” for not wearing the shirt.
On the other side of the coin, there’s something deeply hypocritical about Qatar owned PSG wearing rainbow symbols in the first place, just as that tweet from Newcastle on the previous page is.
