We signed him as a 16-year-old from Swindon. He was touted as the "new John Terry" and a "future England captain". Leigh is now playing for Winchester City.
When a young Ledley King was coming through, the Man in the Overcoat (who was allegedly in charge of our club in a period I prefer to forget) didn't trust him to play CB , and played him occasionally in midfield.
Quite how good a young CB will become is incredibly difficult to predict.
But....
Steven Caulker has excelled at every level he's played; Academy, League 1, Championship, Premier League & Olympics, and he's still only 20 years old.
Jamaal Lascelles has played once for Nottm Forest and seven times for Stevenage.
Right here, right now - it's Steven Caulker who deserves the chance to prove how good he can become at our famous club.
