We already have a universal play maker in Kulu he has the ability imo to play at 10.

Honestly, I can believe Juv allowed this to happen us taking Kulu so favourably we need to be kind to them in return.

They can have Ndombele for £30million. That’s nice of us.

Agreed completely. I just don’t see how Conte would use him, unless to accomodate at 352 or 3412. But our summer biz so far suggests he will stick with the 343 for most games. Which also means, I think if we were to sign 3 more players this summer it would be (in order of priority, a RWB, CB, and Forward). Those aforementioned are priority positions. AM is a nice to have. And would be brilliant to have a playmaker of his caliber in the squad. But the 60m it would likely cost, would detract from investing strongly in those three other areas, methinks.
This is fairly key. The theory is Conte categorically wants two players for each position. If we stay 343, then I also don’t quite see that as a natural fit for Madison, same was as I couldn’t see Eriksen’s role.

RWF. Kulusevski & Moura
CF. Kane & Richarlison/A.N.Other
LWF. Son & Richarlison/A.N.Other

Depending on where Richarlison’s primary position is seen, factors where else we may need to add. Unless Parrott has a showstopper pre season and stays as the 6th forward.

Full back is the anomaly for the two per position stance. Despite press reports suggesting he is off/available, Emerson seems still very much in the fold. Adding Spence to Emerson and Doherty leaves us 3 RWB’s. At LWB, having Sessegnon and Perisic looks fine. Reguillon’s apparent move would leave us two natural LWB’s, however, in the media yesterday there were comments that Estupian is being lined up as soon as Reguillon moves, leaving us 3 LWB’s also. Is that a sign of the demands on Conte’s wing backs, or maybe the risk of Sessegnon’s past injury issues.

If we sign Spence then I'd guess that Maddison is off the table. We only need the one HG player to come in right now and anymore would cost too much.

Agreed, we’ve been told we aren’t spending that much on a back up player and rotation option not in a key position.

Maddison seems to me to be a HG alternative in a different position if we fail to sign Spence

I don't see Maddison being remotely interested in what would clearly be a back up /bench option with us.
It may be true that he is not interested, but Conte is not thinking about back up options. He wants the depth of squad that allows him to rotate and change the shape of the team so that he can compete on all fronts.

We will need a bigger squad to cope with the number of games and bigger benches. We have already taken on Richarlison to bolster the attack. Another offensive midfielder like Maddison or Paqueta would be an important addition and worth spending on.

I know what you mean, but if we have aspirations to compete with City and Liverpool, then players will need to make that kind of sacrifice to play at a 'top club'.

As an example, Grealish plays less league minutes at City and looks worse than he did at Villa, but he's now a much bigger part of the England set-up, plays in big CL games and makes more money. In spite of not being a nailed starter, he still got 2700+ minutes in all comps, which is only about 800 fewer than he had in 19/20 for Villa (he was injured for much of 20/21).

Given how we set up, I think you're probably right, as Maddison would probably get less game-time than even Grealish at City, and he'll want to be more of a key player. But if we're challenging across multiple competitions and aspiring to be in the CL every season, we can still give a decent spread of minutes to "squad" players, while offering plenty of other perks too (England exposure, stadium, wages, London, training ground).

Yes, don't disagree, but don't see Maddison as one who would want that role, especially with the world cup coming up. He will want to be a star man somewhere to catch the eye.

Depends on how we line up. In a 343 I’m not sure I see Madison fitting in, but if we adopt more of a 3412 than 343. Kulusevski or Madison in the hole, with two from Kane, Son, Moura & Richarlison as a pair up top? All guesswork, only Conte knows how he sees us lining up.

I can definitely see us using the 352 at times but you’d think anyone we are looking at would need to be more versatile so they can either play AM/one of the forward roles of AM/CM to slot in when we play 343.

Looks like we are linked with Oscar Gloukh, who looks a terrific talent but obviously more of a project signing in line with guys like Sarr. Would be nice to get the AM sorted and have another creative player and goal threat if we need to do something different.
