I would suggest after watching us struggle to keep the ball for most of this season
Conte does not want us to needlessly hold the ball. He wants quick incisive attacks, then everyone back into defensive shape/structure.

playing in possession requires a lot of ball and player movement that we don’t do very well. And adding Maddison would not change that for the squad. We train, and have players for, quick counter attacks, mostly from the flanks.

Players who fit those attributes are what we should be targeting.

I agree with a lot of the things you are saying with regards our style of play and the type of players we should be targeting.

I don’t necessarily think this discounts Maddison as an option though. Maddison could fit the Conte mould with clear direction. Maddison clearly thinks intelligently about the game and could adapt

Conte also places a lot of importance on set pieces and Maddison could transform this area for us.

Offensively, our bench looks weak. Bringing Maddison in would certainly gives us some variety and a higher level of resilience.

Overall I think he would be an astute signing who would bring a real differential to the current crop of players we have at our disposal.

Maddison has good vision, a good first touch, the ability for an incisive pass, and a growing eye for goal.

His versatility across our front three, as a 10 or wide forwards, or an 8 in a midfield three. He would take a huge amount of pressure off Kane, who is getting double teamed constantly when he comes deeper.

I think his English/proven prem would crank his price up to eye-watering levels, but without Deki and Moura, we have looked a bit predictable up front this season.

I just think we will keep harping on his qualities and how useful he can be for us, until comes January 2023 he will sign for someone.

For once, Chelsea probably wouldn't go for him, with Mount / Havertz in the team already. Only real competition I could see would be Newcastle. Liverpool will be going all out for Bellingham.

The system that would suit him best would be the most attacking of a midfield 3 in a 5-3-2. I don't think he could play LWF in our current set-up. Requires too much discipline and it would stifle his main attributes. In all honesty it'd be a bit odd if our 2 biggest signings under Conte were to be Maddison and Richarlison who I can't really see in the same line-up.

Looked great today against Everton, a playmaker with pace. Would fit perfectly as the advanced in a 3 in midfield or even on the right of a front three coming in from the line

Offers more creativity than any of our midfielders and he can obviously play on right wing too, it's hard to find a better fit than him. Oh and he is amazing at set pieces too, plus HG etc.

I think he is excellent I just dont see Conte wanting to try and fit him into a system.

Otherwise why not just get Eriksen in the summer? He was free and we didn't even want him.

His work rate impressed me today too. I’ve really changed my view on him this last year. If he doesn’t make the England team, I’ll be shocked.

The HG factor is really an added incentive. I really hope we get him... I really wouldn't mind losing 3 fringe players for him lol.

Maddison would enable more incisive attacks, with better penultimate and/or final ball. He can also do this from four or five different positions, and offer Conte more variety through which he can force the opposition to re-think how they play against us.
He knows we're too predictable, and I think you will see this in his acquisitions across the next couple of windows...

I love Conte, more so than peak Poch. But for such a winning coach, I feel his subs and plan B or C is lacking. He knows his plan A works enough of the time, for success.

But having a subtle plan B and C would make him next level, and stop me from aging so quickly.

Maddisons skill set, versatility etc is the missing link in my eyes. If Rodders gets injured or goes off the boil, we are so devoid of creativity, it scares me the thought of sitting through two games per week?

No plan B & C? I'm confused as we've changed it up multiple times this year after 60-70 minutes and won late.

Or in this case I assume lack of a plan B & C means playing 4 at the back instead of 5...
