Are we all not getting a bit carried away here, other than ITK info there seems to be no press reports/rumours in the last day or two. Considering how Dave Whelan likes to give a running commentary on every deal Wigan do, I find it strange something more has not leaked out.

Perhaps we've said to Whelan keep stum or we'll go elsewhere. There's also the thought that as media is supposedly a few days behind, I'd say something will come out Monday/next week.

I think whoever wrote that article is getting carried away. "Daniel Levy will not be deterred by the £20m price"... I'm sure he won't, lol.

You could be right, but there is something about Whelan keeping stum I can't get my head around.

How good is the ITK source? Not having a dig or nothing just ain't seen the name before, not that I'm an expert on these things.
He has been on Spurs.Odyssey for roughly 4 years and has over 4000 posts. This is the only time he has shared info on there from a source as far as I know. I don't know why he needed to head his info as 'genuine itk' though. He is a decent poster and not a wum.

wigan averaged 54.4% possession over the season. spurs averaged 53%. wigan had more of the ball, mccarthy passed it backwards at a much higher % than parker. it's right there, it can't be denied or excused.
It can very much be denied given that those pie charts you posted merely show that more of McCarthy's backwards passes were ACCURATE than Parker's - not that he made more in general or that he made more backwards passes than forwards ones.

Sorry if someone else has already pointed this out to you.

Looks a classy player to me and could easily slot into a 3 man central midfield next to 2 of Sandro, Paul and Dembele.

Parkers lost it now really, understandable after 10 years of running around like a lunatic, so we need to replace him.

I don't think McCarthy looks particularly attacking though, although his passing looks cultured, so I can't see him getting too many goals.

Just realised I have completely forgotten about Holtby. I can't see Levy splashing out on a centre mid when he has 4 already and perhaps 5 if Parker stays.

Strange decision if true.
We have Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Holtby to choose from. Sigurdsson, whilst usually more advanced, is also an option.
Throw in Carroll in the background, and I really don't see the need to spend on McCarthy.

The point made earlier of keeping the ball moving at a high tempo is really important. Fits in with how we want to play. McCarthy does possess the necessary skill set, but I think Holtby, Carroll and Siggy can provide this too if given a chance to play in their favoured positions. Would be nice to have an Irishman back in the first team though, been a while.

I like him... has a pivotal role at Wigan.. literally. Neat, tidy, plays at a good tempo and doesn't waste much. Whether we need him or not is another question as i also think Carroll and Holtby do/can play in a similar way.

Telling Whelan to keep shtum has as much chance of success as telling Defoe to pass rather than shift and shoot, each has their instinctive reactions you can't change that :)

if you can't read a simple pie chart then there's not much hope for you.

Is this over yet...can we just fast forward to where he

a. Signs a new contract with Wigan; or
b. gets bought by someone else; or
c. Decides we don't offer CL and that we aren't good enough; or
d. Daniel Levy forgets his cheque book and leaves it at home

hope nothing on that because we don't need him, if we need a player from Wigan, it should McManaman.
