With no progress regarding Mathieu and Marquinhos, Barcelona could look at alternatives. Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen possible option. [md]

I'd hope we aren't in a position where we have to sign 3 Centre-Backs.

I'm not too worried though as Verts has said he wants to stay, the Spanish newspapers are incredibly unreliable, they're already spending shitloads of money and we will ask for a ridiculous sum of money and Barcelona are known to be looking at other targets like the ones mentioned.

Not convinced Verty wants to stay. His form last season was very poor when you compare to his first season with us. I saw many a game where he just jogged back as well. Not a good attitude. Maybe Pocho coming in will change things?

Talented player no question about it, just feel he would happily leave if a big club comes in for him. Good part of this is if he goes we get a shed load of cash for him.

Well if they do start their shenanigans we'll totally fleece them.

35 million minimum in this crazy market. Maybe even 40.

I wouldn't be surprised if Levy tried to get Barca to break the £50million record PSG paid for David Luiz- Vertonghen is a better defender...

I know Jan said he wanted to stay but if Barca come calling... there's no way he would turn that down.

I don't see them having any interest in Jan, they'd have to deal with Levy and I don't think they want Jan, I think it's born out of lazy journalism. You can tell they're not too fussed over Jan anyway, they were prepared to move for Mathieu before Jan, speaks for itself mostly.

I'm 99% sure Jan will still be ours come next season.

So this whole thing about Barca not being able to engage in transfers. Just bollocks, then?

Am I right in thinking Vertonghen nutmegged Messi this weekend,
leaving the guy flat on his back?
Right by the far touchline, second half.
If so, that is quite a claim to fame.

Either way, he is very comfortable on the ball,
but he has an attitude and is slow, with little physical power (for a supposed CB).
He hasn't got the energy for midfield and is a little lazy.
He does not fit in anywhere and is a bit of a maverick.
Sounds like a typical tottenham player, to me.

I love Jan. Unfortunately when it comes to players I can't help but put heart over head and let my feelings take over knowledge. He was poor last season, he does have an attitude and we could probably sell him for good money but I couldn't bc he's my super Jan! :(

He should not be sold under any circumstances. We won't find an adequate replacement in late August, and it will badly weaken our squad.

Lloris Vertonghen Eriksen and imho Sandro should be forming our nucleus. Just need a Modric type in there too and its an impressive core.

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen (27) is one of the alternatives at centre back. Barcelona already follow him since he played at Ajax. [md]
