A worrying article for me also. A thought to be £17million is a lot for a 'squad' player that can only play in one position. Perhaps we will simply see a lot more rotation up front this season, not necessarily akin to our full backs last year but much more rotation to keep Kane fresh; which would be good but I love us to sign a goal scoring player play in the three behind the striker.

Maybe drop Kane back into that position as he's capable, and often does, and play Janssen up front on occasions

Plays instead of Kane for the easy cup games, subs for Kane in a lot of main games, comes in and plays with Kane when we need a goal in the last 20 mins...

He'll get gametime and a great education. No need to feel any negativity about it that I can see.

Any striker coming in is going to be mainly a squad player because Kane will be number one choice and Poch tends to play one striker. That's why talk of singing Gotze was (probably) nonsense. He's young, he's improving and it seems like Poch wants him. These days that does cost 17m sadly. I haven't seen much of him but trusting Poch and seeing we need a striker I'm hoping we get it done soon.

Can't see the club ever paying 17 million for a player to be a "back up" or indeed the player himself coming here from first team football to sit on the bench.

This kid is a nailed on starter and worthy of being one as well. How and where Poch is going to deploy him is another thing, but forget about him being a bit part player.

Kane doesn't have elite level pace and does alright in the Epl. Defo a gamble but so was batman and this is half price.

Looking forward to watching him play for our mighty spurs.

Gotze is far from just an out and out striker, although you could be right in saying it's probably nonsense.

Which is a shame as he is exactly the type of player we need in my opinion.

He's not got much 'big game 'experience under his belt, and is new to Poch's training and tactics, and young in a new country. I can definitely see a transition season for him but while he might surprise us I'd hate to start the season relying on that.

However, I do expect a better season from Son and Clinton to bridge the gap this season.

I think this one will hit the ground running. He is young so will find it much easier to adapt plus he will come in relatively early in pre-season. 5 weeks of hard labour will sort him out.

With the new tv deal 17m is the going rate involving English clubs. Championship clubs are bidding similar amounts so shows how the transfer system is based on the market value. Adds 5-10m on fees right now just to start negotiating.

As for Janssen he has grown up in a system that teaches 4-3-3, pressing and tactical understanding. Not many young English players in the Championship who will have his understanding of the game.

Think Walker versus Dier, Toby, Jan, Eriksen who had similar backgrounds to Janssen who will fit in with what the manager needs from him.

Should be a really good signing for us,fear its the end of the road for Son & Clinton though personally.I would like to see Clinton get a run in the side but don't see it happening.

Why should it be the end for those?
We are building a squad that can rotate with little difference in calibre so rotation makes little difference to performance. Also impacts made from substitutes.

Although the transfer of Janssen is great news (and expect it announced soon), i agree it will be more exciting to see Clinton & Son show their true potentials & skills
