I think most top players these days must understand the need to be part of a squad. All they have to do is look at City and see how they have won everything with a squad that contains two Premier League quality XI's. There are enough games in a season for everyone to pick up more than enough competitive minutes.

Levy has lucked out with this manager. If we'd got another manager that plays turgid football the fans would be putting serious pressure on him to leave the club.

If he doesn't back Ange now he's going to be in trouble if things go to shit again at any point.
Not this nonsense again.

Nice seem to be doing fine without him tonight. Perhaps helps our negotiating position.

Also didn’t realise that Dante also plays centre back for them. He’s 40 now and still plays 90 mins every game.

Yeah I think I remember he was available on a free awhile back and looked like someone we should want to bring in. But didn't he have some legal troubles at that time?

Really like the look of him. Had never heard of him before. Much like Romero and VDV. Bring it on.

I would love to be wrong just don't see us spending north of £35mil on a player not guaranteed to play in the first 11.
I agree there is a need to have good backup in the event of VDV or Romero missing games but I wouldnt be surprised if we were looking in the £15-20 million bracket

Have you seen the cost of the players sitting on the bench of any top three or four side?

The days of (for example) Skipp, Pierre, Reg, Sanchez, Winks (both now gone) and the like being good enough squad players under Ange is long gone.

With the injury and suspension list as it currently stands it shows how poor in depth we really are.

Was speaking to my client who has played against him.

Said he is incredibly talented and a very strong defender. Would suit the PL.

The only issue is he said he gets suspended for silly things like picking cards up for dissent and overly strong tackles.

He is suspended tonight where he was supposed to be playing against my client 🤣🤣

So he may be one that we would need patience with

But we know what to expect from Romero.

Lilywhitelab on twitter is pretty good when it comes to tactics and tottenham. Had a longer thread on twitter on Todibo, which I've copied in below. Give him a follow if you like it.

Front foot defender
Todibo reminds me very much of Romero in the way he defends currently. He loves to step into midfield to meet the opponent before they can turn and nick the ball. He’s strong in the challenge but times his tackles well. With this style there are obviously times he can be caught out leaving space behind, but it’s a risk worth taking because of his physical capabilities and anticipation. Also there’s times just like Romero, he oversteps the mark, although I don’t think it’s to the same level as the Argentinian. Also this is the exact way Ange likes his players to defend, to snuff out transitions and sustain pressure in the opposition half.

Space Eater
The way this guy can cover ground is mesmerising, he defends large spaces so well. Just like VDV, when he’s in full speed he can catch up to pretty much any attacker which means he handles defending large spaces so well. With his physical capabilities he can also defend 1 vs 1s out wide very effectively using his strength to out muscle wingers, but also his agility is pretty strong to keep up with those who are tricky and want to turn inside and out. These capabilities are vital in our system, where huge spaces are left out wide due to our FBs being very high and narrow. Therefore in transition our CBs must be able to do the things discussed above.

Composed Passer
Todibo has a fantastic passing range too. At Nice he is probably instructed to go long more often that he would be at Spurs but this does show his ability to switch play, especially from right to left. In terms of breaking lines through midfield, I’d say he probably doesn’t have the intricacy of Romero, but what he does have is an insane level of composure. He loves to bait the press and then pop the ball round opponents with his midfielders. This is something that’ll thrive in the Ange system.

Powerful ball carrier
Todibo’s most useful way of progression is his carrying. He loves to fake to pass it and then step into midfield, using both his speed and strength to get past or outmuscle any opponent trying to press him. Surprisingly for his strong and tall height, he has really nice ball manipulation and body feints which can get him out of intense presses. This is a great way to attract midfielders and open up space for our more creative forward players.

Weaknesses
With all the pros that come with his aggressive defensive style, of course that can lead to him mistiming challenges and leaving space behind him. Furthermore, despite being 6’3 he is not as dominating as you’d think in aerials. His timing can be off in terms of his jumping at times.

Where would he fit
Well we know we need that 3rd CB and ideally they’d be able to cover both Romero and VDV. Todibo can 100% cover Romero, like for like they are very similar. Can he cover VDV though…? He certainly has the technicality to play on the left hand side. He can be pressed on his wrong side and be more than good enough to play through it. Defensively, he’d need some coaching for sure. He’s super aggressive and if playing with Romero he’d probably need to be more passive. He has the pace and ability to defend wide areas but whether he can learn to step off a bit, is yet to be seen. Despite this, he’s a fantastic fit and a brilliant player. I’d say he’s the best player for us on the market, and would be the best signing.

Do we think Romero or Tobido could play the RB position as a backup to Porro?

Our full back depth isn't great, and I think Romero has the skills to do a good job there. He'd probably be even more of a nutcase if given license to roam around the pitch, but it'd be fun and could work

Romero, Todibo, van de Ven. Three equals where any duo combo of them will keep us strong at defense. It's where we need to be.

I suspect Emerson will be available for transfer, he doesn’t really suit the way we play now. He’s not got the quality or confidence needed on the ball.
I don’t see him being sold ahead of others outside of the first 11.

Ornstein just said in his column that he thinks it’s doubtful Todibo joins in January.

Tottenham Hotspur

Injuries and suspensions have afflicted a Tottenham squad that was already a work in progress, so head coach Ange Postecoglou and the hierarchy will aim to keep building in January.

Spurs — like the majority of their rivals — will be operating on a tight budget, but it does not prevent them transfers; they will just need to be creative.

The priority is a centre-back and a lot of work is being done. Names such as Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo are in the public domain but it is doubtful the France international defender will join Spurs this winter.

Their approach to other positions — such as a midfielder and wide attacker — will be determined once there is further clarity on when Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Giovani Lo Celso and Manor Solomon will regain fitness and also whether funds can be generated via exits.

A frustration for Spurs last summer was the difficulty they encountered in trying to shift personnel who were surplus to requirements. Offers for Eric Dier will be entertained — or he will go as a free agent in June — and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg might depart if suitable proposals are received.

I agree. He is in a title race with Nice, he could possibly have his choice of elite clubs if he stays and wins the title. Man U were heavily linked with him in the summer. If I was his agent I would certainly be advising him to see out the season and assess his options in the summer.
