I largely agree with you too. My point re inconsistency is that Jenas is no more inconsistent than most of our other players. His problem is he has not developed into the player we think he could be.

Our problem as Spurs fans is that we expect our players to be world class, especially our attacking midfielders, despite the fact that we have been mid-table for much of the last 20 years. Hoddle and Gascoigne were world class a great joy to watch, but we have to be realistic and not rubbish our current players for not being as good.

Today's game showed that we need Jenas to be fit and ready to cover for Huddlestone. Let's hope the latter is not out too long and Jenas is fit for next weekend should the Hudd not recover in time.

I would contend that JJ is more inconsistent than Wilson, and, given the early stage in his career, THudd. It would be impossible to compare him to any other midfielders, as we don't really have any other central mids, but he is certianly more inconsistent that Lennon and Mods., our first choice wide players, more than Krankjar, thogh it is a bit closer, and probably about the same as Bentley - but at least DB has the excuse that he has never had the opportunity to settle into the team, while JJ has had plenty of time to do that.

I prefer to call JJ an enigma - but the time is fast approaching when he is gonna have to put up or shut up (not that he's done a load of whingeing - maybe if he did the antis might lbelieve he actually cares about his position in the team).

i cant be arsed to read all this shit.. pretty sad really... all i know, is that either Jenas is a tight arsed bastard, or your Personal Trainer is earning FAR too much if they live in the same street!

It's all rather subjective. On his day Jenas has shown great quality. Over time he has been a very effective player, defending well, getting into good attacking positions, creating a few assists, scoring a few goals and generally busting his gut for the team. I still maintain that the accusation of "inconsistency" is a bit of red herring. We will have to disagree on this one. Good win today, and on topic, it looks like we need cover for Huddlestone. I prefer a fit Jenas to any of the other options.

careful mate , if you express an opinion against jenas polski skleep will give you negative rep !

jenas is history , lets not waste any more time talking about a average player when we have several midfielders that bring much more to the team
modric , niko hudd wilson lennon bentley etc.....
lol, not so fussed about a negative rep, it would be boring if we all agreed.

I did not mind him in Jol's second season, but Jenas has always been a fraudster, he's lucky he's scored against Arsenal a few times, other than that he'd done sod all

He and Zokora won The Carling cup, he was part of the team that beat Chelsea twice and he was in that 5:1 game, so you guys need to get off his back and leave him alone.

I've learned that stuff like this doesn't count on this site since it was done during the Ramos era when nothing good happened.

Sorry

Our meanest defence in recent times was Stalteri, Dawson, King & Lee - facts and stats mean nothing. Lee was perhaps our most under-rated player in my life time by our own fans. He was superb yet was an easy scape goat. Jenas, on the other hand, as i said before, only appears to raise his game when it's a big one - take him to an away game in a rugby town somewhere and he might as well not bother leaving the hotel. If he could apply the amount of effort in every game that he appears to be able to muster if the cameras are on him then he'd be a nailed on starter but he doesn't, he'll impress one week and depress the next, then he'll go missing altogether and i find myself wondering if i prefer it like that. Frustrating situation as the boy got talent, just not the motivation.

Jenas is currently injured and has been for much of the season. I suspect this is the main reason for his lack of playing time and starts.

Given last seasons excellent partnership with Palacios I would imagine Redknapp preferred pairing at the start of this season was Jenas/Palacios. Jenas's injuries allowed Huddlestone to come in and he has done well for the most part.

Having said all that something seems to wrong with Jenas given his poor showings in his last games. Perhaps he is still carrying an injury.

I never understood why he is accused of being inconsistent. He has consistently been solid for us. Every player has an off-day, so I don't see him as any more "inconsistent" than any other of our other players.

His main problem is that he has not developed into the player many of us believe he could be. Let's hope he gets out of his current physical and mental rut and provides some good competition and cover for one of the central midfield positions.

It doesn't bother me swimming against the tide but sometimes it's good to have some company.

All very fair and accurate assessments of the Jenas situation. Good player, actually one of the most consistent performers in a spurs shirt home or away - and the facts back this up, and always have.

He's obviously been carrying a fairly serious injury for a while - hence the operation now.

But over the duration of his time at spurs I doubt if there is actually a more consistent performer - in terms of doing what he is supposed to be doing.

It's always been the case that he ultimately lacks that mentality that turns a very good player into a great one but apart from that he is one of very few players in the EPL who could play CM in a 442 as good as he can.
