If the living legend Mitchell Thomas is involved he will have been willing and hard working, but will have been ultimately clumsy and ineffective. Lovable though.

Run, Mitchell, run!

Er, coz we're still a bit short on strikers and coz I like singing 'Jermain Defoe, he's a Yiddo'.

We play one up front and we've got a striker who has scored 11 goals this season and you want Jermain Defoe back?

Ridiculous.

Were you one of the people singing that song at the Dinamo Zagreb game? That was some of the daftest chanting I've ever heard.

Had to settle for a stream for the Zagreb game so not guilty!

I'm not knocking any of our strikers, I rate Bent as well as Pav and Campbell.

We play with 1 up front but who's to say that Harry won't use 4-4-2 in the future (perhaps if Luka was unavailable) - we also know that Harry likes the 'big man/little man' combination. In terms of these scenarios I think Jermain would be great alongside Bent or Pav.

I dont honestly think that we'll see Defoe in our colors again but he's a good player and scored a lot for us - therefore I wouldn't mind if he was back at the lane.

I was calling for Defoe to return myself a few weeks back, but it wouldn't be worth it until at least the summer anyway (and apparently it cant happen in january anyway.) He's UEFA Cup tied, so that would be another pointless move in January.

As for the reports, i'm sure Daniel Levy would have done everything by the book. Its usually the agents who need to be investigated so i doubt Harry has done much wrong either.

I'd rather have the £9m

Im sure it could be used to buy a striker who offers us more, something differnt to what we already have and a player who could compliement those around him better then Defoe.

I like defoe, but I can't see us signing another striker to sit on the bench in the prem and not be eligible for the waffa

The whole deal was a farce.

Defoe's contract was running down, and his agent was Sky Andrew. After the Judas debacle, Levy was not going to allow a player with Andrew as his agent go into the last year of his contract and leave on a Bosman.

Defoe then claimed he'd sacked Sky Andrew, and there were rumours he'd sign a new contract at Spurs (esp since he'd apparently just had his dream pad designed close to our training ground).

Deadline Day on Sky Sports News, Defoe suddenly turns up at Pompey. But Pompey can't afford him unless they sell a player (Benjani).

Defoe signs for Pompey late on Deadline Day, but the SSN reporter outside Man Citeeh's stadium is getting his nuts frozen off waiting for Benjani to appear for his medical. At around 11:30pm, Benjani's taxi zooms in.

Citeeh miss the deadline for signing Benjani.

It emerges that Defoe signed for Pompey on loan till the end of the season.

The FA then allow the Benjani deal to go through. Defoe signs properly for Pompey.

Now, Sky Andrew appears to be sueing Defoe claiming he was still his agent and is owed a wedge or seven.

Question 1: if Mitchell Thomas was Defoe's agent, rather than Andrew, did we really have to sell him with a year-and-a-half left on his contract?

Question 2: wtf was going on with the flow of money through bank accounts given that Pompey allegedly could only afford to buy Defoe if they received hard cash for Benjani?

Hopefully, 'Arry wasn't directly involved in any of this financial monkey business. But I'm not holding my breath...

Defoe and Benty or Pav could be great together.

I'd rather have a proven Prem scorer that will hit ground running than a Carlos Kick-a-ball who may miss the sunshine / cooking / mum / friends etc.

We currently only have 2 strikers and a loan player who we are kindly training and blooding for ManU

I dunno, I don't think that Bent and Defoe would compliment each other at all, they seem to me to be too similar a player. Maybe they could learn to play well together but it is my opinion that with them it is an either or situation rather then having both.

Defoe for me showed his best form when alongside Freddie Kanoute, he looked then a world beater. For my money atleast though he has never developed the way I (and no doubt many others) expected him to.

I personally think Defoe is somewhat over rated, he is a good finisher yes but I don't think he is consistant enough (although he has proved to be a 20 goal a year man)

I wouldn't be sad if we were to sign him, I'd rather have him signed then Campbell on loan I suppose. I would like to think we could make a better signing though, one who would better compliement those already with us.

9 million with 1.5 years left becomes 4 million with a year left. I think the club had no real choice really. A deal had been offered for quite a while.
As unpopular as sales like this are (Carrick etc) they are neccessary.

I think in Kanoute/Defoe we had just about the perfect pairing. Problem is once Kanoute went Defoe never really got a ideal partner after that, which his game very much needs. There was a little spell where it looked like He and Berbatov were really gelling but we had a tough run of games, he didn't score and with a player like Keane in the squad you're not going to get too long to coast.

I think Defoe would be daft to leave Pompey as in Crouch he has again found the perfect foil. For the same reason I think it would be daft of him to comehere unless we can pair him with a similar type of partner. I think Pavlyuchenko prefers the shearer type role than the Kanoute one even though his hold up play is pretty ok.

In 2006/2007 Defoe also looked briefly to be striking up a decent partnership with Mido, before Mido got struck down with the dreaded Pharoah's Groin for the 78th time. But for me he always flattered to deceive—a scorer of great goals, but not a great goalscorer. The same accusation could be levelled at Keane, but he put a far higher proportion of chances away.

Acording to Bradley Allen he had a bust-up with Ramos before Christmas, which presumably made up his mind about signing a new contract. After that, we didn't have any option but to take the best offer going. Then, it seems that we'd hoped to offload him the previous summer—there's really no other explanation for our signing the superior Bent.

isn't is just a case of investigation regarding Defoe and his agent and another agent?

I hope he comes back. That way we can sell him again.
