Well that would be Vieira wouldn't it

If Zokora is worth 8.6m then Jenas is worth a hell of a lot more than 10. The only reason we should sell to our rivals (Villa) is to use as a makeweight in the Young deal, but I can just see us being ripped off.

I think the absolute max we should offer to get young is 16m plus jenas. We should then sign another more defensive minded central midfielder like muntari. We would then have muntari palacios and the hudd competing for 2 positions and modric young Lennon and bentley competing for 2 positions

I have always considered jenas to be mediocre at best, but it disturbs me greately that we are selling midfielders and not bringing anyone in. What is Levy thinking?

Still I suppose it all doesn't matter. Levy will no doubt write an open letter to the fans come 1st September and he will arrogantly think we'll all be happy with said letter.

I agree. selling Jenas is idiotic, if there is no better replacement lined up. Sorry, but Vierra is no long term replacement for Jenas.

I still think that Jenas can develop into a top quality player. I hope it happens here and not at our closest rivals.

16 plus Jenas for Young...are you on drugs?

There is no way we should be even thinking about selling Jeans. He and Palacisos formed a decent partnership during the second half of the season. JJ is underrated but when you look at his stats he puts in so much work in the midfield and scores the odd vital goal. JJ energy will be hard to replace.

A big problem I have with the ENglish press so far this window is that when quoting values of players they suggest we want to sign they put a huge price tag on them whilst under rating the value of players they link with moves away from our club.

While these values hold little weight in the real world they do go some way into shaping the perceptions of how much these players are worth.

As said already, if Glen Johnson is worth £17m then by no means can Hutton be valued at only 5 same with Jenas being rated as a £10m player whilst Downing left a relegated club for £12m already this window.

While one transfer is not linked to another and there may well be many other factors to determine fees involved, it does go some way to indicate current market values and acts as a point of reference.

I agree with BC that unless we have a much better replacement lined up (well already stamped) to fill Jenas' role in the squad we would be mad to let him go. Indeed even if we do he would still be valuable to us as a squad player if he were willing to raise his game at the challange and fight for his place in the team.

Selling to your rivials is foolish and unless Villa are going to offer us deals that benefit both parties we should refuse to do business with them. No way should we strengthen them whilst weakening our own squad.

Carew for Jenas is not a fair deal, they look as though they will refuse to allow Young to come to us and we should do like wise with people such as Bentley/Bent/Jenas.

Not that I agree with most of this but here is my opinion

Glenn Johnson is an England player now, Hutton is Scottish....hence the price

Downing is a natural left footed player who can cross the ball - seems to be a rear commodity in English football these days

Harry REALLY wants Young, and would sacrifice jenas to get him - Plus, if he has Young, Modric would no longer need to play on the left, hey presto, jenas new replacement!

Selling to rivals, we we would be swapping with them - some would say, Jenas going and Young coming would be foolish for Villa, not us!

Just my humble opinion

Unfortunately I think Jenas wants to leave for a new challenge and who could blame him,he has always been under-rated and over abused by our fans.
Would be a great replacement for Gareth Barry at Villa.

Given that most on here would have been delighted with a Barry/Wilson midfield pair and MON who has a huge amount of respect from most fans sees Jenas as a Barry replacement, why do so many fail to see what a great partnership JJ/Wilson will be, given time?

No matter what people think of him, and opinions are pretty split, Jenas is at the moment a first-choice midfielder for us, and even if we bring in someone else in his mould, he is going to be in the first team. What benefit would there be in selling him, unless we are desperate for money or if it facilitates another deal?

But if we do sell him, we can be pretty confident it will be a for good price. I think we can count on Levy for that.

Personally I don't see a Young-Modric-Wilson-Lennon midfield being a great success in many situations, and not better or more balanced than Modric-Wilson-Jenas-Lennon.

This one is laughable
http://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premiership/7million-jenas-first-of-an-influx-at-villa

After JJ's statement and the 7 million proposed figure? haha.

Just stood watching some pool in The Transfer Tavern as Alan Nixon from The Mirror tells us, that Aston Villa are “to land” Jermaine Jenas from Premier League rivals Tottenham. Alan claiming Villans manager Martin O’Neill is about to make an official offer for the England International as he tries to assemble a new team at the Midlands side.
Apparently the former Celtic boss is hoping to lure Jenas away from White Hart Lane for around £7million before the Premiership season gets underway and has been doing some background checks on the Spurs midfielder over the past few weeks.
It said Villa will up their efforts to sign the former Newcastle player after Stilian Petrov’s injury reminded O’Neill how thin his squad is.
Jenas’ wages are claimed to be more than Villa usually pay, with the tabloid saying this should not prove a problem and that a switch to Villa Park for Jenas from Tottenham could happen soon.
Alan concluding by saying Jenas “is primed” to be one of the first of several quick signings at Villa, with just a little haggling standing in the way of his departure from Harry Redknapp’s side.
So was it water, wine or whisky at the root of this one? Is Jenas really about to be the first of a clutch of arrivals at Villa? Should this rumour Fly or Die?

Levy wouldn't let him go for less than double that!

I can accept that Jenas leaves us, if we sign Sissoko. Hopefully we can conclude a deal for Sissoko.

I haven't seen Sissoko but if we want to sign him, why not sell Hudd or O'Hara and keep Jenas in case Sissoko isn't as good as we have been led to believe? Even if Sissoko is good, keeping Jenas will allow us to bring him is gradually rather than thrust him into the side as happened with too many new players last year.

I agree, it would be a really bad move to sell JJ.
We have 4 quality strikers, yet only 2 quality C Mids

there is obviously no smoke without fire
its been pretty obvious that harry is trying to bring in more competition in his position
maybe he aint got the stomach for a fight , maybe harry has told him he wont figure in his plans , its going to be interesting we do sign any of the french lads we have been linked with. one thing for sure is jenas position as a regular starter definatly needs upgrading, in 4 seasons he has only shown a glimpse here and there of whats needed to be a top 4 player.

I continually hope Jenas can come good, he has it all but I dont think he has the mentality to be a true, top class player. He should be aiming to be as good as the Lampard's and Gerard's of this world - he has more pace, he is good in the air, tracks back, can tackle, is tidy enough on the ball, makes good runs forward, get goals, but it never ever happens often enough.

In a season you might get a good 5 minutes of youtube clips, but the rest of the time.......

I think the link with Young and Robben is an indication that Modric will be used in the middle more often. Wouldnt be surprised to see Lennon on the left for a few games if we dont bring in another nippy winger. If you need a partner for Luka its going to be Palacios, not Jenas. And if you want to be more solid defensively, wouldnt you want Palacios and another strong, tough midfielder (which points to Cattermole or Sissoko).

I think, if a good offer comes in and we can get a replacement, Jenas will pay the price for sitting still over the last 4 or 5 years. He hasnt really progressed, and doesnt look like he will
