A Walsall supporting friend of mine saw a lot of Walker and reckoned he was the best keeper outside of the top flight over several years. Only his lack of inches stopped him going all the way. Much like Mark Tyler, very underrated at Peterborough and now sadly at Luton.

spoke to my contact about walker the other night. he said everyone was really against it but harry was adamant he was the right choice rather than any of the young GKs that are out on loan. i'm told he pretty much failed his medical but was allowed the contract anyway due to our desperation, and is apparently 'too fat to catch balls from corners.'

sounds promising. although he said he won't play - cudicini is obviously ahead of him and gomes is making a steady recovery.

I wouldn't write off short, fat, out of condition keepers. I remember a time when a guy from North Wales who fit that description perfectly, and i would reckon not more than 6 foot tall, was arguably the greatest keeper in the world...
