I recall the same praise heaped on Ndombele when we were after him too. 80m is too much for potential.. and potential in a lower quality league. No thanks, not for that kind of dough.

He’s a dead cert to be world class on football manager, and I think people are letting this skew their opinion of him. I know I am.

But like you say, he’s had one great season in Germany, he’s still only 20. To me that presents a significant risk especially at how much they’ll want for him.

Who know’s maybe he does go on and become the next Maldini, but it’s by no means certain, and the money they want should really only be being paid for someone who’s nigh on a dead cert.

I'm not sure if we can take what happened with Ndombele and never take a punt again. Ndombele was a scouting issue as well and not really just unlucky, if they were diligent they would've known he'd always had work rate issues dating back to when he was at Amiens. I feel like if we do want to sign potentially top top players we'll have to take some level of risk before they're fully proven as we're still not at the level where we can outcompete City/Liverpool/Real etc for a proven world class signing.

I think interest in Gvardiol has only gone as far as a enquiry and then us bulking at the fee. It is too much at the moment, unless we have some money in the bank and the rest of our business is done.

I don't understand the obsession with the club finances. He would be a fantastic addition that would massively improve our side, that's all i care about.

It's about weighing up where the money is spent in order to balance out our incomings. If we were to spend big on Gvardiol then we'd have to spend less on other players for the other positions who may not necessarily be available and therefore ending up with someone who may be way down on our list, so it's about knowing who we can get from our shortlist and bringing in the best players we can and getting the balance right with the funds we have.

I get that but we don't really have the insight into the club finances anyway. Remember when we suddenly conjured up 60m for Martinez out of nowhere? I'd also debate that the most important position the club wants to improve on is LCB, judging by our activity in the market.

I agree that it's unlikely we're seriously in for Gvardiol but if he does come in, the last thing i'll care about is how much he costs us.

I would care about how much he costs if it seriously affects the players we bring in in other positions. We obviously don't know exactly what players we're eyeing up in all positions and who the player scenarios are for those positions depending on where the money is spent, but we gotta be wise about this. If the club think we can spend 80m on Gvardiol but still be happy with the players coming in for the other positions then great, but if it means getting much lesser players for those positions instead then I, and I imagine the club too, wouldn't wanna persue that as it'll create too much of a squad imbalance.

But what if you had to pick between getting him and spending say 80m and then missing out on other targets?

We have a budget and we need to make sure we use that budget to get all the pieces Conte wants. If that means we get a cheaper option at LCB so we do that then it’s how it has to be!

I’d love this guy but not at the expense of us missing out on other targets we need!

What if we don't have to pick ? Its very clear that the targets are driven by Conte's plan and all ITKs point to us landing genuine quality on each position required. Its not like Levy and Paratici are stupid enough to just bring in a player without consulting with Conte.

Naive at best. The masses want a competitive squad from top to bottom. Not 1 Gallactico type signing at the expense of having squad balance/harmony.

Can you realistically see us buying him for £80m and Bremer? Seems like we want 2 CB’s so it’s unlikely. We also seem to be looking at 1 or 2 forwards as well.

I just don’t think our budget stretches that far but I would love it to!

Leipzig quoting £80m doesn’t mean that is what he will go for, it is their starting position. If Paratici thinks he can get him for £60m we should let him try

Ali Gold saying he was our first choice before Bastoni. He still doesn’t think it will happen but found that interesting

I could buy into spending mental money on a 20 year old if Conte and Fab thought he was worth it.

It’s a crucial part of the side and he’s sort us for as long as we could possibly hope for.

Never seen him play though to be fair!
