SWEDE DREAMS

Spurs to rival Newcastle for Palace defender Andersen but deal could cost close to their transfer record

TOTTENHAM want to sign Danish centre half Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is keen on the classy defender who stood out for Palace and previously starred for Fulham in a loan spell.

Postecoglou wants better players in his side and has the money to spend.

He has already brought in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for £16m, James Maddison from Leicester.

Israeli star Manor Solomon arrived on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk after impressing on loan at Fulham last season while Dejan Kulusevski’s and Pedro Porro’s loans were made permanent.

But Andersen, 27, won’t come cheap with Palace likely to demand around £50million.

The elegant defender can play from the back and would fit into the side neatly after proving he can handle the Premier League.

Spurs supremo Daniel Levy has been after Andersen since his Fulham days but is now primed to pounce.

And Palace could do business to find their own summer transfer plans.

The Eagles are keen to strengthen under Roy Hodgson after the veteran boss’s rescue act last season.

But the former England boss is being restricted by a tight budget, having so far only recruited Jefferson Lerma on a free.

And a deal for Andersen could allow Hodgson to source a replacement with extra cash left over for other positions.

Andersen would be willing to go to Spurs even though they are not in Europe next season.

His defensive ability and talent on the ball makes him one of the better centre backs on the current market.

Newcastle also admire Andersen and the two clubs could square up for a transfer battle before the season kicks off.

I’d love to know the last time Alan Nixon had got a story on us correct. Might not even be since the creation of the Premier League!

I actually like Andersen. He's a very good defender with very good passing range. He's one who can definitely step up to the next level in a better team. Has Toby vibes about him. If he's the panic buy option. It's not a bad panic buy.

I've been impressed with him. Questions over his pace though? I keep thinking he's slow.

just before anyone might say… but Andersen should not be considered to be a cheap or “levy Poundland” option

I think he’s a decent player. Doesn’t play as a LCB as far as a I know though.

As if we are signing Anderson for nigh on £50m when we dicked around Wolfsburg and Leverkusen for more promising defenders.

IF we have, as you put it, dicked around Wolfsburg and Leverkusen, then yeah i'll agree, it would seem strange in the extreme to spend £50m on Anderson and not Tapsoba. At the moment i have no idea if we have dicked them around, or if they have dicked us around, or if everyone's dicks are where they should be, but i will say that i like Anderson (more than i like Guehi), and having a more experienced head in the defence would be useful, although as i'd probably catogorize Anderson as a better version of an inform Dier, i'm not sure i'd want both at the club at the expense of a younger, quicker, better long term prospect.

Nixon knows Freedman at palace really well apparently. Could be he's leaking to push Newcastle who are supposed to be in as well.

Really doesn’t make much make much sense. Older, more expensive, also not homegrown. Good player, but if we are going to spend 50M on a defender, doesn’t seem like this would be the one.

Andersen is not a starter for me in a top 4 challanging squad more of a top 10-6 club.
Yeah , that's a reasonable assumption although were he to join, it might be one of those scenarios where his experience and leadership elevate those around him (particularly Romero) to a standard higher than his own ceiling - if you get what i mean.

Agree I could see him as a player with leadership qualities that possible could become a (C) and then go for Van der ven as the "younger" one that we give time to bed in and build around in the future and then we already have Andersen that are able to both play on the left and right depending on Romeros future the coming years.

In: Andersen and Van der ven
Out: Sanchez, Dier (possibly a switch with Andersen + 30m ? )

Anderson would be a decent signing and a massive up grade on any central defender that is comfortable on on the ball we have in our squad . Pretty sure he has played right/ left sided for Palace and is use to playing in back four every week

I guess the fact he has PL experience might make a difference, less of a risk maybe than the other two who don't.
