I think AVB rates Carroll. Let's see how he develops.

Yes, quite possibly, given his inclusion in the US tour squad despite having been irritatingly underused by Clough during his loan spell at Derby.

Like you, I suspect AVB will have been impressed by what he's seen.

However, Carroll is quite similar to Josh McEachran at Chavski - frail build (like Luka), and primarily a player who knits the play together. Pass and move, pass and move etc.

Fwiw - Ancelotti regularly picked McEachran for his first team squad, but AVB hardly used him and then he was loaned out for the second half of the season.

Carroll impressed me in the Europa last season, and plays like he's watched Luka closely. So, I'd be happy to see him stay in our squad this season, rather than loaning him to a club who are scared to use a young player of his type.

I don't know if we will or should go after him, but I think if anybody matches Liverpool's offer, they will prefer to do business with that club. I imagine that they are not big bin-dipper fans right now

Good player for a mid table premiership club but not good enough for Spurs. I can't see any reason for gazumping the bindippers here.

The Moose from Talksport tweeted this move weeks ago. Are Liverpool trying to slash their wage bill?

Joe Allen, before that thought they could get Sigurdsson for £20K a week, trying to offload Carroll and Adams.

Just seems to me they are trying to compete with Norwich wages.

Rumour round hear was if he played more than 60mins than Derby would have to pay the weeks wages

If that's true, that was a pretty stupid cheapskate deal by us.

If you loan out an experienced player, on big wages, like Bassong or Pienaar, then of course you want their salary paying.

But for young players like Carroll, on relatively small wages, going on loan should surely about their playing as much as possible and developing as football players. Not about recouping a couple of grand.

I agree.

I was under the impression that most of our youth loans worked the other way around - If they played, we'd pay their wages, if not, the loaning club would. That's the way it should be for youth players, IMO.

Joe Allen..... Smell the name again.... This is what I describe as a boring player, and Liverpool are in for him again... What kind of people are working for Liverpool nowadays? They certainly don't have good sense of football.

What a boring team they will be if they keep on like this. Good for us, though.....

Joe Allen is a very good player, far from boring IMO.

Isnt there a poster on another board that is related to the Swansea chairman. If we were in for him then I think we would get info filtering across to us

I'd say that Joe Allen is a very exciting player. Young, talented, bunch of potential and a possible future star. I'd love him at Spurs, but £15m might be a little steep. Anything under £10m would be great business.

The ignorance of people never fails to astound me - Allen is technically a very good player and would actually be a great replacement for Modric in terms of the role he would occupy.

Are there better players out there? Course there are, but then i'd also say we could do a damn sight worse than cast an eye over Allen and i'd certainly prefer him in the centre to Huddlestone.

Allen is a good player, 15m is too much though. And I really don't understand why people are even mentioning Tom Carroll. On the evidence I've seen he is a long way from Premier League level.

Not if you compare with other players in the market. When you do that, he is a boring player.
The same with the likes of Downing, Adam, Henderson, etc... You have to compare with the market. It is not just one option when it comes to signing players.

A club spokesman said on the Welsh club's official website: "Swansea can confirm that Liverpool have expressed an interest in Joe Allen, despite a written agreement with Liverpool not to approach any players within the 12-month period of former manager Brendan Rodgers leaving for Anfield."

I don't care how highly Swansea rate him, as a Modric replacement this is just farcical... I've said it before but there is no third option when it comes to life after Modric. We either stump up the cash for someone like mouts and take a hit in the wallet. Or we take the hit on the pitch and our end of season points tally. I'm not saying we should do one or the other but spending 10 mill on someone like Joe Allen and trying to have it both ways just isn't going to work... At least for this season anyway.

Just let them sign him and splash the cash like that. I don't mind it at all :)

Joe Allen is a good player for Swansea but wouldn't be for us and won't be for Liverpool.

At the start of last season Swansea were the bookie's favourites to be relegated. The purpose of Swansea's possession game wasn't just like Barcelona or Spain's tiki-taka football which tires out the opposition. The purpose was primarily to take time out of the game. Much of Swansea's possession was in their own half of the pitch. Most of Allen's passes were sideways or backwards. This was fine for Swansea as teams who expected to beat them would become more and more desperate often leading to mistakes that Swansea could capitalise on. The fact is most of the time Swansea were perfectly happy with a draw. This won't be the situation at the Lane or for that matter at Anfield.

Allen doesn't tackle and he doesn't score goals. He retains possession because he is in a team who prioritise that so looks good for Swansea but he's never looked good playing for Wales or Wales U21 and if he came to Spurs people would soon be nostalgic for Jenas.
