I agree. He ruins any argument he has by using such derogatory and insulting language.
Personally I like players that have played at the top level to comment on top level football; whether I agree with them or like their personality, that’s irrelevant. It’s the fact they can empathise with the situation.
100% the fact is there are way more bigger issues in football than who talks over the top of games- ownership, corruption, VAR issues, ticket prices for fans, scheduling of games, costs of viewing, conduct of players, the state of grassroots football . This one seems to irritate ppl like him most 🤷

I’m guessing he thinks Paula Radcliffe can’t chat about men’s marathons or Jess Ennis talk about athletics etc maybe Michael Johnson shouldn’t chat about the women’s running races lol.

maybe if they spoke in a French accent he’d think it was acceptable?

I just went and had a look at twitter to see what it's all about and surprise surprise it's Joey being a yob.

For what it's worth I don't think Eni Aluko is a good pundit, but then Shearer was absolutely woeful when he started and so hopefully she improves.

Imo he's realised there's money in being a talking head wanker for GB News and has decided to go full steam ahead on that.

I think this is his point, thr names you mentioned are suitable (male or femal), he talks about Emma Haynes as someone who can comment on men's football, or football in general, his issue seems to be those who aren't any good at football or who haven't eanrt their stripes as such.

Basically picking people to commentate because it fits an agenda if that's makes sense.

He just goes about it in a completely ticklish manner (and ridiculously aggressice)

After he finished playing he tried to reinvent himself as some kind of footballing intellectual, obviously that failed so he seems to be going for the shock jock tactic in an attempt to keep himself relevant

I think he goes about in a completely ridiculous manner to be honest. To be calling people serial killers and mocking people is stupid. These women will get even more online hate/threats of all sorts now than usual - for doing their job.

The fact is those women couldn’t have done much more in their fields. No they aren’t as great as the great Joey Barton (whose managerial career wasn’t much good anyway) and yes I do think they force it a bit with the women on the commentary tbh (I’m a woman). But he has gone all out attacking them based on that saying women shouldn’t commentate on men’s sports.

The way I see it is that we all chat about football. You have professionals like Carragher and Neville who supposedly top of their game-chatting rubbish and being incredibly biased too. I hate tokenism because it doesn’t reflect people’s skills but I also totally reject a blanket “women shouldn’t commentate on men’s football” or some such. It’s very shortsighted.

Just sounds like he angry he hasn’t got a job tbh.

100% agree with all of this kirsty, he comes across aggressive and bully like, hate that in people.

Debate the issue, around both the women's game and the men's game, debate the standard of reporting, punditry and all sorts, but do it with respect, which he doesn't show in the slightest

It’s quite an extraordinary watching Twitter threads and seeing people sticking up for him when he’s clearly baiting people. It’s like they don’t have a free mind or brain cell capable of knowing right from wrong.

Yeah I think this is the case.

He has realised he isnt cut out for football management/coaching so has given up.

Knowing that he is unlikely to get chosen as a pundit, he needs something else.

Now, I do think there is an element of box ticking going on as there seems to be a load of women pundits/commentators suddenly.

Some of them have been awful. Some have been decent.

But then again, Merson's opinions and insights are absolute toilet.

Savage and McManaman are totally useless co-commentators.

Micah Richards offers little but a big laugh. Keane just lays into bad performances.

So its not about sex. Its about quality. Entertainment in the broadcasters eyes unfortunately.

I certainly don't have a problem with women offering punditry or commentary but I do perhaps think they are opening the door to all of them and that is allowing some who are probably not capable in.

But they have done that with mens for years so I dont get why people are complaining about it being just women.

If it was down to me, Id have applicants watch a game and then deliver a presentation on the analysis to prove their ability to analyse and explain.

Think it would be good for them too as they wont be mocked on Twitter for saying things theyll get ridículas for.

For example, Lucy Ward gets pelters because she doesnt offer any insight. She basically just explains what we can all see.

But weve had plenty of male co-commentators who have done the same over the years. We do groan about that but now its being used as a sexist angle.

But If Lucy Ward could analyse better then she may not get as much ridicule. For example, I havent seen many go after Emma Hayes because she genuinely is fantastic at explaining

I haven’t read his tweets, so maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong. But it sounds like he’s espousing the age old view that you can’t talk about the game unless you’ve played it at a professional level and he doesn’t consider playing the women’s game to be sufficient qualification to talk about the men’s game.

But that’s just wrong. For a start, it’s a bit like saying no one should be a film reviewer unless they have directed major movies, or no should be a food critic unless they have worked as a chef at a Michelin starred restaurant, or no one should be a literary critic unless they’ve written a bestseller. Usually different skill sets are involved between producing something and a analysing it. I think good journalists often talk more articulately about the game than ex pros for example.

Secondly, he’s talking about women who have played the game right? So they do have real experience, albeit not in the mens game. But it’s not like we consider Wayne Rooney’s pronouncements to have a higher status than Ange’s because Wayne’s achievements as a player outstrip anything Ange achieved. And that’s basically where Barton’s logic leads to because if we say a woman isn’t qualified to commentate on the men’s game we might as well also say this ex pro isn’t qualified to commentate on international football because he was never capped, or this one shouldn’t be commentating on the Champions League because he never played in it.

This is exactly what he's saying. Women and especially women footballers are his main target but he's also going hard in on certain journalists.

He gave Jonathan Liew of the Guardian the full barrel after Liew was on Sky opining about the Calvert-Lewin red card, saying that how can this man who looks like he's never touched a ball in his life have an opinion on that. Also going after Liew's appearance, not just his credentials.

The man is a total cretin.

I had to google to see if he was married as I'd presumed not after reading all of his latest 'rants.' Turns out he is with 2 kids.

Also, surprise surfuckingprise, it turns out he had a recent court case against him for battering her. Sadly it was dropped because she wouldn't testify.

Wouldn't be surprised if she's left recently; his offering to fight Gary Neville feels very "they've turned the weans against us".

He’s pond scum, always has been always will be.

This is the guy that was putting cigarettes out on youth players eyes when he was at City.
