Well done to young Bostock who became the youngest ever Spurs player tonight.

The previous youngest ever was Ally Dick who also came on as a sub in a Uefa game in 1982.

Both 16 but Bostock is the younger by 100 days or so.

great to see him come on tonight. First touch was literally a great through ball. Looked very confident for 16 and hopefully he features at some stage against Liverpool

With only a few days to go until the January transfer window opens its doors, the media are rife with speculation about Arsenal signing the likes of Karim Benzema and Luka Modric. Look a little closer, however, and you will realise that it’s not just world superstars being linked with us, but some of the greatest young talent the world has to offer. I’ve already mentioned Tresor Mputu, who was on trial with us a couple of weeks back and last week it emerged that we are close to signing Gillingham wonderkid Luke Freeman. Today, after flicking through the morning papers, I managed to find out that we are in talks with Crystal Palace concerning their 15 year-old Theo Walcott lookalike youngster John Bostock. He is 6ft tall and is a midfielder with an eye for goal. He can also pull off the odd trick if need be. He’s definitely one to look out for.

I appreciate that we shouldn't be bashing our own players nor summarising their efforts into a single noun. However, whilst he has staunch supporters who fail to see what, I believe, is staring them in the face, there is going to be replies to the opposite extreme.

The only defense people seem to have of Dawson is, "once upon a time, he played well," and "he's a nice bloke." Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any substance with regards to distinguishable defensive characteristics.

There are too many variables which need to be consistently present in order for him to reach his average level. Unfortunately, those variables need also to be present in the opposition. It's nothing psychological, he's just been exposed.

Your reply is smart and glib. You're just delivering your 'extreme' opinion in a less abusive, angry manner but it's still extreme and ultimately unwarranted.
You use the words 'the only defense' but if you look through this thread people have provided far more substantial reasons than the weak ones you've decided to highlight (whilst ignoring the valid reasons that have also been posted).

Instead of just defending your own point of view (which initially was very derogatory - almost certainly for psychological reasons), it would be more reasonable if you admitted that the truth lies somewhere in between. He isn't brilliant and he isn't useless but he is decent and for a club like ours to have him as a 4th choice CB shows a lot of strength in depth. He'll never be King or Woodgate and I don't think anyone's suggesting that but he's proved himself at this level to be more than capable.

Considering he has played very little football this season I thought he was fine last night, if not a little rusty, against poor opposition. But the suggestion that his inability to perform to his own high level of 2/3 years ago is not at least in part psychological is slightly ludicrous to me. Confidence is massive to players (and people generally), and since Harry's come in it's virtually all everyone has talked about. Ask Bentley, Modric, Huddlestone etc. about it right now. In fact ask ANY footballer how important it is and it will come near the top of every list.

Bostock gave a great little interview on SSN, very religious young lad and amazed with how confident he was both on and off the pitch.

I can remember a thread about Zokora where I stated that I don't rate Zokora one little bit - and you went on and on and on and on and on and on and on about how I was a yob for not 'supporting' the player....please explain how this is any different?

You should see his old facebook...He should be in a Children of the Corn movie.

Good on him. Better worship the good book than the bookies/bars.

Definitely Ally Dick

John made his first appearance aged 16 years, 295 days and was therefore six days younger than the previous record holder, Ally Dick.
Ally faced Manchester City in a First Division fixture at White Hart Lane on February 20, 1982 aged 16 years 301 days.
He beat the previous record of 16 years 303 days, set by Neil McNab against Chelsea on April 3, 1974.
