The chant was "We know what you are" so whether that will be deemed to be racist or not in any way has to be decided by the FA. On the surface, it may not seem to be and it will be hard to prove. It's still not acceptable.

Doesn't this make Tottenham the biggst bunch of bullshitters on the planet? We seem to have decided that backing a player (your captain) is somehow "not acceptable". It is. As far as we know they were being very smart by essentially not commenting on an ongoing criminal case - perhaps they are saying he is a liar?

No, it's Chelsea, not Spurs so they must be saying he is a black ****, even though they have lots of black players on their team and many of them are actually ****s.

Fair enough that Chelsea are sticking by their Captain at the moment. If he's proved guilty then I think it's a different story and it will be interesting to see how they react. The fans making chants about Ferdinand is in poor taste - even Chelsea have said so. The fact that the chant isn't just saying he's a liar tells it's own story IMO.

I'm not sure how any of that makes Tottenham fans a bunch of bullshitters. You can be sure most fans of other clubs will feel exactly the same way.

I would make the same kind of comments if Spurs fans reacted in a similar way and, yes, some have done worse in the past and I don't condone it.

As Nailsy said, Chelsea aren't too happy about the chanting themselves and IMO, as I said, proving that there's a racist connotation would be very difficult, if not impossible.

Doesn't necessarily mean he's a racist, I think.
Ok.

Was he punished at all? If the FA had banned him for a few months then we might not be having this conversation now. Personally I think if he's found guilty then Chelsea should sack him and take him to court just like they did with Mutu. How can they expect their players to respect him if he's guilty? How can their fans cheer him on? If I said something racist at work I'm pretty sure I'd be sacked.

Well that's a fair point, I would say ever case is different and should be judged on it's merits. I don't remember if Pearce was punished but I do remember that Ince forgave him and surely that counts for something.
If you read my subsequent comment, I actually stated that i was in fact responding to your comment (that SS57 quoted in his post) but was too lazy to go back and find it.

the rest still stands.

I did read it and the fact that you were too lazy to do a single mouse click to the previous page where the comment was doesn't make a difference. You still quoted SS57 and it still appeared/s that you disagreed with his post.

My comment was
There is a difference between comparing a white person to a monkey and a black person to a monkey.

So even if you're responding to my comment, you're saying there isn't a difference.

You really believe that do you?

Since when does having black players in a team mean that there is no racist minority in amongst the supporters?

Since I said that. Oh no, I didn't. Will you please read the words people write rather than trying to interpret them.

I wonder if terry can be found innocent if the FA decide he is factually correct?

I read your words and asked you a question.

I don't see why not.

So were you disagreeing with my post or not and do you agree with SS57's post or not?

not really, some blacks look like monkeys, as do some whites.

always thought Paul Scholes looked like a baboon...

I know that's how your response would have looked and it doesn't make any difference, I'm not sure why you thought it would.

As you are unwilling to elaborate or answer any of my perfectly reasonable questions I can only conclude that you think its ok to think that certain black people look like different types of monkey just as long as long as it's not said out loud. Also that you don't think there is a difference between comparing a white person to a monkey and a black person to a monkey.

is it also relevant that anton has not posted a thing on twitter since the incident? previously, he was posting regular updates (more often than Rio!)

Ah, potential criminal action. No tweety allowedy.

That made me laugh out loud.
I`ve got this vision of a load of old boys in suits sitting around agreeing that yes Ferdinand is a black **** so Terry must be not guilty.

Has anything happened on this yet? I haven't seen anymore news on it (although I'm not in the UK anymore, so harder to follow).

That seems somewhat contradictory, if you don't think there is a difference between comparing a white person to a monkey and a black person to a monkey, why would you not be prepared to say it out loud if you thought a black person looked like a certain type of monkey?

Nothing, other than Terry is going to still be available for the games against Sweden and Spain.

For the same reason i wouldn't tell someone that they looked like someone famous if i felt they would be insulted by it.

Unless (of course) i was amongst friends and that was the idea. (just like a friend who looks like Myra Hindley's Mug shot photo, that i was only too happy to share )
