Our form and spirit is all good suff at the minute but football without a competitive edge is not the real world and hard to call. Our current form will carry over to next season which has to be a positive whatever level its at. Next season...Top four, a final and finishing above Arsenal-whats new surely, Jose Mourinho has to give us more, thats why he's there.

I can’t see a way into the team for Ndombele with Jose’s the tactics. The two CMs in front of the back 4 have to have massive positional discipline. Whilst neither Winks or Sissoko are good enough there for us to challenge properly JM clearly thinks they are more reliable for his preferred system which says it’s all about the trust JM has for Ndombele. I think we’ll end up with Højbjerg and Lo Celso in those positions as a long term first choice pairing, in roles similar to Kheidera and Alonso when JM was at Madrid.

I think top six is feasible top four might take another year or so, I would be happy with finishing 5th but winning Europa.
I’d be over the bloody moon if we won the Europa, it’s a major European trophy which as you mention gets us qualification for the CL. Id take any trophy right now, but EL over FA cup and League cup all day.

Most definitely. He loves him. He’ll drop Moura or GLC
I’m not so sure. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we look far more solid defensively and far more fluid in attack since he’s been out injured. I just think he can be very sloppy in possession and slows down our attacks by taking too many touches.

So that's Lamela out the door too presumably.

How does Dele fit into this team now? Do people think Mourinho will bring him back in?

I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t one the most improved next season! He has two traits that make him very valuable to a Mourinho side. Very good on the counterattack and the very best at ghosting in to the box between CB’s and FB’s

I don’t necessarily disagree with what you’re saying but I think Mourinho loves Ali and I just can’t see him not starting him regularly. He’ll change system or personnel or both in order to get him into the team, imo.

Lo Celso could take a deeper role and Dele play as the 8. Dele needs to adapt to the counter attacking system, which he can actually very suited to if you watch his goals/highlights reel. He is a strong runner and very clinical. But he needs to recapture his form from 18-24 months ago as the last year of so he has been too slow and wasteful in possession.

If Dele does not fit the system he is a prime candidate to be sold to fund the regeneration of the squad.

It’s true - we remember UEFA cup winners from other countries and grant them respect when we play them, maybe even check out their domestic games. Nobody remembers foreign domestic cup winners.

I think he’s poor in counter attacking situations. Doesn’t seem to have a picture in his head when he’s running with the ball, gets caught on the ball far to much and doesn’t weight his passes that well into space. he was useful when we were dominating the ball and probing he was good at finding those little gaps in the box.

Levy back the man and let him do his thing, no fucking about baldy.
Problem is, Levy will be delighted that his original hypothesis is proving to be more true by the game and he'll be itching to save a few quid now. The reality is that both was needed, a new coach and new players.

There’s a sliding scale here. If you win the Europa it doesn’t matter where you finish in the top 17. All depends on what you expect week to week in the league. Happy with 5th? How about 17th? Too far? 10th? Fact is lifting that trophy effectively voids your league season unless you win the league or get relegated. 10th and Europa win trumps even 2nd and no cups for productivity. But it’s a hell of a ‘all eggs in the basket’ risk.

If we just strengthen with quality in the 2-3 areas we clearly need to, we should do well.

4 areas IMO.

DM
RB
rotational striker or forward
LB or backup CB (seems Mourinho likes Davies so probably CB).

and if we're getting greedy another attacking midfielder - Willian on a free would be good ?

Is it a coincidence that we've improved since abandoning the idea that it was worth deliberately unbalancing the entire side in order to get Serge Aurier in space?

I see where you’re coming from and I agree that Jose does seem to like Dele. He is actually one of the few of our players who ticks the box in terms of being a bit of a see you next Tuesday for 90 mins. The thing with Jose is he’s not scared to drag him in games where he’s having a shocker, whereas previously there were games where he was the prime candidate to be dragged but seemed to be untouchable.

Hopefully we can keep the squad relatively fit as competition for places should keep everyone on their toes. At the minute he’s going to have to fight to get a start in this team whereas historically he’s pretty much been a guaranteed starter.

When fit and firing he is a very dangerous player - we just haven’t seen that for a while.

Declan Rice and Jamal Lewis would be great business for us imo. I dont think we need a striker. Son is our Kane backup and Parrott should hopefully start getting more minutes next season. I wouldn't want someone coming in and blocking Parrotts route.

Jose starting to show the nous that we brought him in for.
